On today’s episode of the ABC delightful show “The Chew,” the episode was titled “The Chew’s Ultimate Totally Terrific Tasty Turkey” with Clinton Kelly, Carla Hall, Mario Batali and Michael Symon, on today’s episode. Daphne is home with her new baby boy.
Clinton asked what the first thing that comes to mind when mentioning Thanksgiving, and the audience shouted Turkey! With the holiday only thirteen days away, he made some Apple Cider Mimosas for a great way to start the day. The crew mentioned their favorite turkey dishes, and they each had a memory of the best they ever had.
Michael and Mario made turkey dishes that looked delicious. Mario’s was completely deboned by the butcher and made Turkey ala Porchetta with Focaccia Sausage Stuffing. He rolled the flattened turkey around his stuffing and tied it with string. Michael’s was “Old Fashionezd” Roast Turkey, as in an alcoholic drink called Old Fashioned. He made the boozy marinade and soaked cheesecloth in the mixture and then covered the turkey completely with the cheesecloth; he put it in the oven allowing the cheesecloth to baste the turkey so the oven remains closed the entire cooking time.
An audience member named Kinya made snack turkeys using a half ball of Styrofoam and covering it with brown material then attached a round styrofoam ball for the head adding eyes and a beak, she then made cones from card stock in various colors that looked like the feathers and added popcorn and various snacks for those too hungry to wait for the meal. It was adorable and very useful. Another member named Angela took leftovers home in Mason Jars adding their leftovers in layers and then when they go home, they just pour it out on a plate, heat and enjoy with no mess during transport. The last tip from a viewer was from Kate, who had the kids make placemats using leaves and construction paper; they made a turkey body, and the leaves are the feathers. Around the outside, they wrote the things they were thankful for. She covered it with plastic to use it year after year.
Carla then made Smothered Turkey with Gravy & Biscuits as a great Southern dish. The biscuits were so beautifully brown, and the turkey and gravy were a true delight. Mario and Clinton got to taste them during the commercial and cleaned their plates immediately.
Clinton gave the recipe for a leftover treat. He told fans to keep their slow cooker around and to put all the turkey bones in there. Add carrots, onion and celery and leave it on low all night. Then in the morning, strain the soup and take wonton skins and brush off the cornstarch and add a mixture of the turkey filling and made the wontons. At the last minute, he added baby spinach and it easy and almost made itself and was yummy. The turkeys that Michael and Mario made earlier were ready for carving and eating on this episode of “The Chew.”
