On today’s episode of the ABC hit show “The Chew,” the episode was titled “Last Minute Halloween Party” Clinton Kelly, Carla Hall, Mario Batali and Michael Symon, were together on today’s episode. Daphne Oz was on maternity leave after giving birth to her baby son John-John on October 21st weighing eight pounds and six ounces.
Clinton began by revealing that Halloween is only one day away, and if you forgot to plan a costume, a party or a recipe, they can help. They took a walk down memory lane to see the costumes they have worn over the years. Season one they were Shrek/Michael, Guy Fieri/Mario, Diane Ross/Carla, Mario Batali/Clinton, Morticia Adams/Daphne. On season two, they dressed up as the then ladies of “The View.” They were Whoopi Goldberg/Mario, Joy Behar/Michael, Sherri Shepherd/Carla, Elizabeth Hasselbeck/Clinton and Barbara Walters/Daphne. Season three they were the Spice Girls. They were Posh/Clinton, Scary/Carla, Baby/Daphne, Ginger/Mario and Sporty/Michael. Last year, they chose each other’s costumes. They were Bad Sandy from Grease/Clinton, Rick James/Carla, The Cheshire Cat/Mario, Brett Michaels/Daphne and Kim Kardashian/Michael. They had run reminiscing over the fun photos, and Michael said he needed therapy after each one.
Carla then made her Flying Ghost Smores on popsicle sticks. They were coated in chocolate and crushed graham crackers and topped with coconut or peanuts. Carla introduced three audience members who had Halloween Hack Attacks or shortcuts. Lea showed bowls she used where she printed out the faces of her guests and put it on the bowls of mac & cheese making it look like brains. Next was Betty, who had a project with foam from a craft store, and she made name tags. Christine took four 4×6 frames and made four scary pictures in each frame, glued the four into a box and put a candle inside for a great centerpiece.
Mario had a trick or treat bag challenge. The audience held bags that contained ingredients for Mario to make a dish, and each bag contained one-trick ingredient that he had to add to the dish. He chose bag number thirty-seven. It contained sea scallops, soppressatta, Brussels sprouts, a jalapeno and a bag of popcorn. He created Scallops with Brussels Sprouts and Soppressatta Two Ways.
Clinton and Carla visited Brooklyn, where they saw Maniac Pumpkin Carvers that make the craziest creations from pumpkins. They carve into the tissue that is just under the skin of the pumpkin leaving the softer pulpy consistency for their carvings. They brought them back to the studio for all to see, and it was truly an unbelievable creation.
Clinton was a mad scientist and Carla his creepy assistant. They threw items into the machine and created Halloween costumes. Penne ala Vodka was a woman wearing a vest with pennies hot-glued on it and carrying a martini and a bottle of vodka. A couple was a basketball player and a hoop, called Dunkin’ Donuts, where he threw donut holes into the hoop around her face. The last lady wore an apron with cereal boxes with knives through them, and cereal glued around them; she was a Cereal Killer.
Michael made White Bean Crostini with Arugula for a great snack on this hurried episode of “The Chew.”
