This weekend marked the 2015 Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards in Atlanta, Georgia.
On Friday, the Steve Harvey Morning Show broadcast live from the Georgia World Congress Center. There were feature performances from Jazmine Sullivan, K. Michelle, Avery Sunshine and Robin Thicke. Tyrese surprised the audience showing support with Steve Harvey fans.
During, the Neighborhood Award weekend, there were plenty of options for attendees to receive empowerment, education, laughter, and live entertainment as Steve Harvey provided a family reunion mixed with some of his celebrity friends.
Throughout the day, fans were able to experience a short film by Tyrese titled, Shame, watch a sequel Girlfriends Getaway 2, get a chance to play Family Feud with Steve Harvey, test drive the latest Ford vehicles with the Ford Ride and Drive, exercise with Cupid’s Curobiks class, get educated with the College Expo, shop till you drop in the Shopping zones which were booths set up with hair just about anything from hair products, clothes, jewelry, accessories, music, and much more.
Of course, everyone was looking forward to the official State Farm Freedom Friday Party known as the sold-out “All White Party.” The party was hosted by Grammy Award winner Ne-Yo, with performances from Erkyah Badu and Jodeci. The party also included the “Sing Your Way to the State Farm Freedom Friday Party” with judging from gospel superstar/actor Tamela Mann and her comedian/actor husband David Mann.
In addition, throughout the whole weekend there were plenty of freebies along the way and a section of the expo called Celebrity Row, which offered meet and greet opportunities with some celebrities such as: Sheryl Lee Ralph, Tyrese, Young Joc, Kandi Burruss, Yolanda Adams, Erica Campbell, Sanaa Lathan and Michael Ealy who took a couple of photos, offered words to their fans and signed some autographs.
Catina Lovince,a Tyrese fan said, “I was happy to meet Tyrese, take a photo and have him to autograph my Black Rose cd.”
Saturday offered some great panel discussions with a serious topic “Black Lives Matter,” hosted by Ed Gordon with panelists: Attorney Benjamin Crump ( known for his work representing Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown), the controversial Roland Martin, and Mo Ivory who discussed the serious topic of African Americans being killed by police and what actions people can take to improve the system and conditions happening regularly. There was also a Q & A session at the end offering audience members to voice their opinions and ask questions.
Another great panel discussion “Would You Date You?” was moderated by ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith and offered panelists Dr. Laura Berman and Kandi Burruss. They revealed the concerns and questions women face when dating and turned the focus on Stephen Smith who revealed he must have peace and a no noise policy when he comes home from work with his mate. Kandi and Dr. Berman uncovered the important components of a healthy relationship as being communication, faithfulness and honesty.
The film of the day was a full feature of “The Man in 3 B,” directed by Trey Haley of Tri Destined Studios. The movie starred Lamman Rucker, Christian Keyes and Brely Evans.
From there the attendees ran to witness a special Greek Step Show to get them activated for the blue carpet and Neighborhood Award show.
The Neighborhood Awards were held at the Phillips Arena on a bright long blue carpet with host Shirley Strawberry, who welcomed all the celebrities to Atlanta. Tamar Braxton made her first appearance at the award ceremony with her mother Evelyn Braxton and husband Vincent Herbert, Michael Ealy and Sanaa Lathan worked the carpet promoting their new film The Perfect Guy. The show delivered heavy performances with Tyrese, Usher and Babyface keeping the attention of the sold out 18,000 in the crowd.
After the show, was the Ford VIP After Party, which brought out legendary host Doug E. Fresh and a special performance from Salt-N-Pepa! The crowd was going crazy after seeing all the live entertainment and experiencing the magic with Doug E Fresh. Nobody puts on a party like Dougie Fresh.
Overall, the Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards was a positive and enlightening experience! There was an array of events for everyone to have a wonderful weekend with action, celebrities, live entertainment, fun and laughter!
