Finally The Goodfellas have come back to L.A., in a voice that only Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson could describe.
Romeo and Dejai professionally, known as Tha Goodfellas have made their epic return to Los Angeles morning radio via 93.5 FM KDAY. After some time away from the airwaves, Romeo and Dejai have a renewed focus, energy, yet come with the same sound and enthusiasm as they’re known to have.
Mornings on KDAY-FM will never be the same — a classic station with classic DJ’s provides Angelinos an electrifying way to start their day.
Nick Hamilton (NH): What made you all return to L.A. radio?
Tha Goodfellas- TG- (Romeo): Honestly we never wanted to leave L.A. radio. We’ve been fighting to get back in this market since we left back in ’08. Things happen in life where we had to go in a different direction in life, but now we’re back in a better situation.
(Dejai): We walked into a lot of dark rooms, and felt like we were being left out. God sent these certain ways for a certain reason to bring us back and put us on top.
NH: With so much competition, how do you all focus on your show with other morning shows on the air?
Romeo (TG): Competition is good, and it’s healthy. We have tunnel vision when it comes to our show. We love it, and it makes you grind.
Dejai (TG): We don’t really worry about the competition. Good competition is good just like being an actor, that supporting actor and actress is there to play the role and support while we do our part here at KDAY.
NH: Is there anyone who you looked up to in the radio business?
Romeo (TG): Yes, we have family from the station we were with in the past. We all grew together very well, from Kool-Aid, Liz [Hernandez], Big Boy, and everyone over there. We all learned something from each other, and yet we have our own identity.
NH: Now the reports are the Rams are coming back home to Los Angeles next year. Did you all have any connection with the Rams since you both are from St. Louis?
Romeo (TG): “The Greatest Show on Turf”….yes! Shout out to all guys on that team, [Isaac] Bruce, Tory [Holt], we used to hang out with them all the time. But Rams and Raiders are my teams. So if they come to Cali that’s good, so I won’t have fly back home to watch them.
Dejai (TG): I’ve never been a Rams fan even when they were in St. Louis. I still followed the Cardinals even though they moved to Arizona.
NH: Who were some of the guest that made an impact during your interviews?
Romeo (TG): I would have to say Jennifer Lopez, great interview and great body too. Diddy always did his thing when he came through. Ludacris and Tyrese always showed us love. Terry Crews who was in here on our first day, so he’s family.
Dejai (TG): Busta Rhymes, Erick Sermon, Fabolous, DJ Quik, who are cool with you outside of your element. Everyone knows they want to get on the radio, but to see you in another city and they see you and yell out your name, that’s when you know it’s real.
Tha Goodfellas continue to ascend to greater heights as they’re main interview goals include talking with President Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
As excited as Romeo and Dejai are to be back on the radio, these two understand the history behind KDAY, especially on September 25 at the “Fresh Fest” concert when they will bring out legendary artists such as Too $hort, Kurupt (of the Dogg Pound), Yo-Yo, Ja Rule, Mystikal and many others to the stage that night.
Romeo is entrenched in his spirituality, which he says gets him through the highs and lows of life, while Dejai is known for his baking skills to the point where Janet Jackson asked him for his recipe for homemade cheesecake.
With Romeo being a Dodger fan and Dejai being a die hard Cardinals fan, it’s true that opposites attract. And each day these two friends are clearly brothers as they grace the airwaves each weekday morning on 93.5 FM KDAY, keeping your mornings thoroughly entertained.
