Great American Beer Festival 2015 is now in the books and it was a great year for Texas breweries, with a record number of Gold medals awarded to Lone Star State brew plus two medals awarded to local Houston breweries.
In total, Texas breweries received fifteen Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals and among the fifteen, nine of them were Gold. The nine Gold medals are an all- time record for the state of Texas and the fifteen total medals was the third best showing for the state in Great American Beer Festival history, topped only by 2002 and 2014.
On the local front, two Texas Breweries took home some precious metal. For Saint Arnold, a Gold medal was awarded for Saint Arnold Weedwacker in the German style wheat ale category. Karbach Brewing also gained recognition for its Karbachtoberfest, in the American- style Amber lager category. The Silver medal awarded to Karbach has special significance, for it is the first ever Great American Beer Festival medal for this relatively young but rapidly expanding brewery.
The Great American Beer Festival, presented each year by the Brewers Association, is one of the world’s greatest beer festivals and a GABF medal is considered one of the industry’s highest honors. I congratulate the good guys and gals at Saint Arnold and the Karbach dream team for these much- deserved awards and look forward to more medals when the Great American Beer Festival returns to Denver for its 34th edition on October 6 – 8, 2016.
