Teresa Giudice, star of the “Real Housewives of New Jersey,” said she cried while watching Pope Francis visit the United States. Giudice, who’s in jail for mortgage fraud, tweeted that she’s a proud Catholic who is moved by Pope Francis’ kindness.
“Watching the Pope Francis coverage on TV and I am crying,” Teresa wrote on Twitter Sept. 24. “What a wonderful man, such a kind and gentle soul. #ProudCatholic” Giudice, who has been in jail since January, is a self-professed devout Catholic who has prayed on TV many times, especially during her mortgage fraud trial.
In a recently released sneak peek of an upcoming “RHONJ” special, Teresa is heard praying at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, where she’s serving a 15-month prison sentence. “Oh please God, bring me home to my family as soon as possible,” prayed Giudice. “And bless my four daughters and my husband. Amen.”
Giudice will be released from prison Dec. 23 under an early release, but will remain under house arrest until February 2016. Teresa’s husband, Joe Giudice, will begin his own 41-month jail sentence once Teresa is released.
In addition to praying every day, Teresa has been maintaining her physical and emotional healthy by works out daily at the prison gym with a small circle of friends. “She’s got a little group she hangs out and who she goes to the gym with, and who does her hair and her nails,” said Joe.
Teresa has been exercising at the gym every evening before lock-down. Before going to prison, Giudice worked out five days a week combining boxing, weightlifting, plyometrics, TRX workouts and Tabata high-intensity interval training, Celebrity Health & Fitness reported.
Teresa and Joe Giudice were charged in a stunning 39-count indictment for bank fraud, bankruptcy fraud, conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and making false statements on loan applications.
The couple initially pleaded not guilty on all charges, but then pleaded guilty in March 2014 under a plea deal. In addition to being sentenced to 41 months in prison, Joe was ordered to pay $414,000 to Wells Fargo bank and $10,000 in fines.
Teresa, who reportedly earned $650,000 plus bonuses for each season of the “Real Housewives of New Jersey,” has written three bestselling Italian food cookbooks. Giudice said her legal troubles have humbled her and made her less concerned about living high on the hog, like she once did.
When asked whether Teresa will return to the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” after jail, Joe said they’d have to see if Bravo will offer them enough money. “The numbers would have to be very big in order to go back so we’ll see,” said Joe.
