This must be the year for Tamar Braxton. Her music career is going great. She has a daytime reality show hosting gig, and it was recently announced she will be dancing with Val Chmerkovskiy on Season 21 of “Dancing with the Stars.” The 38-year-old diva is no stranger to being in the headlines, and her fans are excited to see her on the ballroom dance floor starting Sept. 14. When that happens, it will mean that Tamar will be on three different networks: WE tv once a week on Wednesday nights, Fox each weekday, and ABC on Tuesday nights.
Tamar’s full name is Tamar Estine Braxton-Herbert, but she is mostly known by her maiden name Tamar Braxton. She was born March 17, 1977. Tamar is a three-times Grammy Award-nominated American R&B singer, talk show host, and reality television personality. Braxton had her first big break in music in 1992 as a founding member of the R&B group The Braxtons, formed with her sisters. In 2000, Braxton began her solo career after signing with DreamWorks Records and releasing her self-titled debut album. The album was unsuccessful, charting at number 127 on the Billboard 200. The label, unsatisfied with the album’s performance, dropped Braxton from the label.
Tamar is the youngest of five sisters and one brother, Michael Jr. She and her sisters Toni, Traci, Towanda, and Trini have a family show along with their mother, Evelyn. “Braxton Family Values” premieres in 2011 and airs on WE tv with family drama and chaos. The first season was the #1 rated reality show on WE tv, and the network ordered a 13-episode second season of the show after the third episode.
Braxton returned to the music industry in 2013 after a thirteen-year break, with her second album, “Love and War.” Tamar has an upcoming album’s title, “Calling All Lovers” to be released on Sept. 11, 2015. Tamar also hosts the talk show “The Real” alongside Tamera Mowry-Housley, Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai and Loni Love, which premiered on July 15, 2013, on seven Fox-owned stations across the U.S.
Braxton married Vincent Herbert, a record executive, on Nov. 27, 2008, after about five years of dating, and the couple welcomed son Logan on June 6, 2013. The singer and reality television star launched a ready-to-wear clothing and shoe line, Tamar Collection. She was married before to Darrell “Delite” Allamby from 2001 to 2003.
Fans may also remember the show Braxton had with husband Vince Herbert called “Tamar & Vince” that debuted on Sept. 20, 2012, and airs on WE tv. The first season follows Tamar Braxton through her journey to superstardom and also features the struggles she and Vince encounter in their marriage. The second season follows the creation of Tamar’s new album, “Love and War,” the promotional tour for the album, Tamar’s pregnancy and the arrival of the couple’s first child. The show has been renewed for a fourth season, and it is set to premiere Sept. 10, 2015.
As for Tamar Braxton’s partner on “Dancing with the Stars,” she will be dancing with the reigning champion, Valentin Chmerkovskiy. Val has been on the show for many seasons now, but he just scored his first win in Season 20 with Rumer Willis. Fans tend to go wild over Val and his partners, and this season Tamar will be no exception. One can conclude that Tamar Braxton is one busy lady.
