Talk shows went all out for Halloween

by atom bash

Even though Halloween is on a Saturday this year, almost all the daytime talk shows celebrated Halloween on Friday. Several of the same characters appeared on more than one talk show, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday. The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was characterized on “Good Morning America,” “Live with Kelly and Michael,” and “The Chew.” Us Weekly reported that Kelly Ripa did a better Donald Trump than Donald Trump himself.

There was a Halloween extravaganza on “Good Morning America” named “Monster Mash Dub Smash” in honor of a lip-sync competition. Lara Spencer dressed up Donald Trump. Robin Roberts did her best Cookie Lyon with TJ Holmes as her ex-husband Lucious Lyon. Amy Robach dressed up as Taylor Swift. George Stephanopoulos played singer Ed Sheeran. Meteorologist Ginger Zee was the Incredible Hulk.

As in past years, NBC’s “Today” co-hosts all dressed as part of a famous franchise. This year they were all members of the Peanuts gang, which is also the subject of an animated movie hitting theaters on Friday, Nov. 6. Matt Lauer was Lucy. Wendy Williams also gave a tribute to “Peanuts,” and she was dressed as Lucy. People said Matt was a better Lucy than Wendy.

Co-hosts on “Live With Kelly and Michael” made multiple costume changes. In addition to Kelly Ripa playing Donald Trump, she also played Kim Kardashian with a champagne glass on her backside while Michael Strahan was dressed as Kanye West and took a sip from the glass. The co-hosts opened with a number from “Star Wars” with Kelly as Princess Leia and Michael as Luke Skywalker.

E! Online rated “The View” the best of all the Halloween shows. All five of the co-hosts were dressed as Disney villains including moderator Whoopi Goldberg as Cruella De Vil, Michelle Collins as Ursula, Paula Faris as the wicked stepmother, Joy Behar as the wicked queen, and Raven-Symone as the evil hag.

The women on “The REAL” were “Fly Girls” where each woman channeled a female icon who is known for flying. Each one of the co-hosts was hoisted down in a flying position and landed on stage. Tamera Mowry-Howley came flying in as Mary Poppins. Tamar Braxton entered as Tinkerbell sprinkling fairy dust with her wand. Jeannie Mai came flying in on a carpet. Adrienne Bailon flew in as Wonder Woman. Finally, Loni Love flew in as the good witch.

The “Ellen DeGeneres Show” introduced the world to the missing Kardashian sister, Karla, who took Ellen’s place during the entire show. The chefs of “The Chew” went their own way this year. Mario Batali nailed Donald Trump, and Michael Symon did a good portrayal of Miley Cyrus.

Fox’s hit Cookie and Lucious Lyon ended up on a couple of shows. Robin Roberts played Cookie and TJ Holmes played Lucious Lyon on “Good Morning America” and Michael Strahan played Cookie on “Live with Kelly and Michael.” A lot of people said Strahan did a better Cookie than Roberts. ABC News reported that “Live with Kelly and Michael” went all out for their best Halloween show ever.

Every talk show except “CBS This Morning” celebrated Halloween. The Washington Post reported that Gayle King, Charlie Rose and Norah O’Donnell didn’t dress up. Gayle said their show is a hard news show, unlike the other morning shows.
