Forever fighting for freedom against the multitude of malefactors who gain some sordid personal advantage from statist sponsored coercion, intimidation or fraud can be very tiring for libertarians. So sit back and take a break, let your mind meander and actually hold a commentary with yourself about the lesser of two – or maybe three or four or five – evils for a change. For example, someone at Yahoo Answers apparently wanted to make fun of freedom fighters so he or she posed this question:
“If Firefighters fight fires…What do freedom fighters fight???”
This would be a good time to answer a triple-question-mark question with likeminded questions: If 10K runners run ten kilometers…How far do carpet runners run??? If “Black Lives Matter”…Are “White Lives Antimatter???” If a progressive believes in “social justice”…Does an equal opportunity upper-class party-giver believe in “socialite justice???”… Does a curmudgeonly judge believe in “antisocial justice???”…Do sociopathic Marxists believe in Socialist injustice???
But back to Yahoo Answers. Here’s another one without the triple question marks: “Why is our government so corrupt?”
Many answers are offered by readers, from Rothchild (nearly always misspelled, it’s “Rothschild”), Illuminati, power, greed, money and politicians. But every libertarian knows that the best answer for why “our government” is corrupt is the same answer given by George Mallory when asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest…”Because it’s there.” But this answer works too…Why did the unwashed chicken cross the road twice??? Because it was a dirty double-crosser!!!
And finally: After asking the quintessentially middle-road middle-class middle-brow question “Did you vote?” (Bush your teeth? Wash your hands? Comb your hair? Pray to the President?) a statist-hugging website called, predictably, Politics From The Middle, scolds us with these middling words: “The office of the President, no matter who sits in the oval office, deserves our respect. If we so belittle the office through excessive partisanship we lessen the authority that the office deserves.”
The obvious answer here is that those who sit in the office of the president are the ones who belittle us. They have no “authority” other than that which they have appropriated for themselves through coercion, intimidation or fraud.
So all true libertarians should have the same respect for the Office of President as they have for the Office of Kingpin, the Office of Godfather, the Office of Ringleader, the Office of Crime Boss, the Office of Gang Lord, the Office of Mafia Capo no matter who temporarily occupies “The Office.” Thus, when a “partisan hack reporter” from Newsweek associated the Tenth Amendment Center with Timothy McVeigh it’s hard not to just snort and roll your eyes.
Break over. Back to the freedom fighting.
