SweetWater Brewing Company (Atlanta, Georgia) announced today that they have officially made a new distributor partnership here in Alabama, and the brewery’s heady offerings will once again be returning to the areas in and around Birmingham thanks to Birmingham Budweiser and Bama Budweiser of Shelby County.
There is no doubt that SweetWater Brewing has a huge following in Alabama since they were one of the original craft breweries available in the state when they first showed up here back in the 90’s. Their 420 Pale Ale and IPA are absolutely responsible for creating countless hopheads in Birmingham, but sadly the brewery’s previous distributor arrangement in the Magic City was not working out and their offerings began to disappear from local shelves and taps for the last few years. Well, brighter days are here again and the SweetWater drought is officially over in Birmingham now that a new distributor partnership has been created with the good folks at Birmingham Budweiser and Bama Budweiser of Shelby County.
“We’re stoked to deliver a more robust repertoire of our heady brews to ‘bama,” says Jeff Chassner, director of new market development for SweetWater. “Looking forward to seeing Bama and Auburn fans enjoying SweetWater – Roll Tide and War Damn Eagle!”
Incredibly fresh bottles of 420 Pale Ale and IPA will start hitting shelves in and around Birmingham today, and should be just about everywhere imaginable in the city by next week. Joining these two offerings will be the following three brews new to the Birmingham market:
Hash Brown Hop Hash Infused India Brown Ale (Catch & Release Seasonal) – Oh me oh my… what did we do? We fired up the skillet to 420°, tossed in a sizzling concoction of 2-row, Wheat, Pale Chocolate, Cara-Brown and Midnight Wheat, then added in a hefty dose of hop hash and other dank-ish-ish-ish fixin’s to scatter, smother and cover this baby all the way. Resiny, citrusy hops spice up the rich chocolate and caramel notes the malt brought to the mix, making this platter slide down the counter at 60 IBU’s. ABV – 6.2%
Hop Hash Infused Double IPA – We scraped all the hash out of the Yakima hop pelletizers we could get our sticky fingers on to concoct the dankest double IPA out there. The pure hop lupulin, aka “hash” (the resiny stuff), meshes seamlessly with the 2-row, pilsner and wheat malts, allowing it to deliver a pungent punch to the palate. ABV – 7.8% IBUs – 100
Take Two Pils – Take Two Pils is a step into an alternate reality for SweetWater, a head-first dive down the rabbit hole into the Wonderland world of lagers. This adventurous golden blonde German style pilsner is brewed with a mad hatter’s dose of spicy floral hops. It’s beautifully Bohemian in body, earthy in soul, and it’s moving low. Go ask Alice, I think she’ll know. ABV – 5.5% IBUs – 35
Beyond the five offerings mentioned above, this new partnership means that Birmingham will see the full SweetWater portfolio going forward. Rejoice, craft beer lovers. Rejoice! Keep an eye out for the brewery’s iconic rainbow trout on tap handles and bottles/cans at your favorite craft beer spots in the city, and be sure to order one up soon to properly welcome SweetWater Brewing Company back to Birmingham. Prost!
