The worst part about getting a second chance to play Survivor, is that 19 of the 20 hopefuls will leave wishing they had a third chance. On last week’s Premiere Episode of “Survivor: Cambodia – Second Chance,” Vytas learned that harsh reality all too quickly, becoming the first of the second-chancers to have his torch snuffed.
It was a promising start, to say the least, with more than just a mild dose of drama over at the Ta Keo tribe beach. All of the craziness in Episode 2, once again, appears to be happening over at the Ta Keo beach. Here is the official synopsis of tonight’s episode from CBS:
Episode 2: “Survivor MacGyver” – One Tribe is completely puzzled at a classic immunity challenge. Also, one castaway attempts a heartfelt apology in an effort to stave off elimination before an intense tribal council, on SURVIVOR, Wednesday, Sept. 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Analysis. Yes, the Ta Keo tribe gets most of the screen time in this week’s video preview (see above) and all eyes will initially be on Jeff Varner. Varner – who is absolute gold on TV and a thrill to watch play the game again – actually surprised many on his tribe when he voted to get rid of Vytas last week. As we learned from my Gordon Holmes Podcast earlier this week, Varner actually had a few pre-game alliances going, and guys like Terry and Vytas were not only in his pre-game alliance, but were randomly placed on his tribe. It looks like Varner may have gotten a bit caught up in the game, and decided that he needed to “speed up” his old school game to match that of the young-bloods.
Still, if his tribe goes to Tribal Council, it would be a shock if they targeted Varner. Abi-Maria is still the obvious target and as the end of the preview video shows, it doesn’t look like she’s doing all that well in the lock-up-an-alliance front. But Peih-Gee and Terry were the other two that voted for Abi-Maria in Episode 1, so both of them have some work to do as well if they don’t want to be the next one out. Remember, voting out Abi because she’s the “obvious” target is really an old school way of looking at it…in today’s game, a person nobody wants around is the perfect person to latch on to.
Over at the other camp, assimilation will be key, as we will get to see how three more days on the island affects both Fishbach and Kass, who both seemed on the outs after Episode 1. And who knows, maybe we’ll even get more than a few seconds of Monica or Ciera this week!
CBS is already calling tonight’s episode a “must-see.” Let’s hope it is, and let’s hope that this Second Chance season continues to pick up momentum as it chugs along.
