It has been quite a while since Survivor has done a “clip show” on the day before Thanksgiving…usually, it’s assumed, they did that in the past because they felt like viewership would probably be way down on a day that is simultaneously known as a popular day to be in with the family and as the biggest bar night of the year. This year – for the first time – not only is tonight’s episode NOT a clip or highlight show, it is a two-hour, double-episode, where we will see two more contestants get their torches snuffed. Maybe this is a ploy to get people to watch? If you know your Survivor history, you know that often times a non-premiere or finale “double-episode” usually means that we are about to hit an uninteresting, or highly predictable stretch…which would be too bad after how this season has gone thus far.
The culprit tonight might be the weather, as the preview video (above) shows that the rain was relentless. If the tribe spent their days huddled and crying inside the shelter, there were probably not too many exciting things happening around camp. Here is the official synopsis from CBS on tonight’s all-new double-episode of “Survivor: Cambodia”:
Episodes 10 and 11 – “Like Selling Your Soul To The Devil” and “My Wheels Are Spinning” – Castaways’ spirits are drowning in a relentless rain storm, but a fun challenge reward offers a few players a glimpse into the Cambodian culture. Also, the “voting block” strategy used this season continues to keep Castaways on their toes, on a special two-hour SURVIVOR, Wednesday, Nov. 25 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Analysis. If we are in for a predictable stretch of boots, look for some combination of Ciera, Wentworth and/or Joe to be the next to get sent home. Joe of course, is the obvious boot the moment he loses his first Immunity Challenge. The girls are the two on the outs with the rest of the tribe. However, the new “voting bloc” strategy (or voting “blocks” as CBS is calling it) could shift the game yet again in an unforeseen direction. My expectations for a double-episode the day before Thanksgiving are very low, but let’s hope this season doesn’t lose any momentum. And gasp! We only have a few episodes left this season already!
Special Thanksgiving Note: For those that follow and read my Survivor coverage over the years (hey thanks for that!), you know that my Thanksgiving Eve recap will be a bit skimpy…and with a double-episode double-dipping into my family time, tonight’s recap may not be as long and as detailed as you would usually expect. Don’t worry, I’ll still hit upon all of the key happenings from the two-hours. So make sure to check out the episode tonight on CBS and come back here later for my (not as detailed as usual due to the holiday) full recap, and analysis. Exit interviews this week will be NEXT MONDAY due to Thanksgiving, so be sure to check those out on Monday. There will be TWO interviews, because we will see two Tribal Councils tonight.
Be sure to subscribe to this column (above) or follow me on Twitter, @tomsantilli. This week – and every week throughout the season – I will post an Episode Preview article (like this one) every Wednesday morning. Then after the episode airs (usually by around midnight EST), look for my full episode recap as well as my analysis of what just happened in the episode. Finally, you won’t want to miss my exclusive one-on-one exit interviews every Thursday afternoon, with the person who was just voted out. Following me on Twitter or subscribing (where you would get email alerts every time a new article posts) are the best ways to stay tuned-in with all things Survivor as we progress through the season…and thanks for reading!
