America Ferrera is back on the small screen – in a big-box comedy. The “Ugly Betty” star returns to TV with the new NBC sitcom “Superstore.” The long-awaited sitcom kicks off with a special two-episode sneak preview on Monday, a month before its official premiere in its regular network time slot, according to TV Line on Nov. 29. The single-camera comedy is created by “The Office” alum Justin Spitzer and also stars “Mad Men” alum Ben Feldman.
“Superstore” centers on the employees at a St. Louis location of the fictional Cloud 9 megastore, where the colorful co-workers wear blue vests and hurl one liners at one another. In addition to Ferrera (who plays 10-year store veteran and floor manager, Amy) and Feldman (who plays unlikely new hire, Jonah) the “Superstore” cast includes Mark McKinney, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nichole Bloom and Nico Santos. Ferrera will also executive produce the workplace comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The extended trailer for “Superstore” showcases Ferrera and Feldman’s chemistry — and not just in a rom-com way. While the project is described “as a comedy about a disparate group of employees working at a big-box store in middle America, and the love story that will ultimately unfold among them,” Ferrera’s character is initially put off by newbie Jonah’s cocky attitude and his unfortunate habit of goofing off. But the two employees eventually begin to bond as Jonah inspires Amy to find more joy at work.
“Superstore” airs with a one-hour sneak peek Monday, Nov. 30 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. The series makes its official premiere on Monday, Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
