Supernatural Denver convention left fans with so many good memories. Creation Entertainment finally brought the fun to the Denver Marriott Tech Center Nov 6-8, 2015. Most of the shows hottest stars made their way to the Mile High City such as show favorites Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Richard Speight, Jr. Matt Cohen, Rob Benedict Sebastian Roche, Tahmoh Penikett, Gil McKinney, Osric Chau, and Mark Pellegrino. The celebs delivered epic entertainment, and the attendees had plenty of stories to tell. Here are just a few.
One such story too place during Tahmoh Penikett’s panel. It was heartfelt and entertaining, yet it was during his Q&A that a beautiful moment occurred. A brave young soul named Tony asked Tahmoh to help him propose to his girlfriend, Natalie. In Tahmoh true form he asked Tony to come up on stage with him to pop the question. I caught up with Tony and Natalie to share their joy with fellow fans.
Q. How did you two lovebirds meet?
Tony: “We met at Vegas Con earlier this year at karaoke, actually. Mark Pellegrino had made his way through the crowd. I was -not- sober since it was Las Vegas. He moved to get on stage and I fell over. Natalie picked me up and we exchanged our info the next day. A few weeks later, I messaged her on Facebook and we haven’t stopped talking since.”
Q. How long had you been planning this epic proposal?
Tony: “I’d been planning it for about four months; ever since she got back from visiting her family in Canada. It was really all just making sure she was okay with me proposing in front of all those people, so she knew it might happen.”
Q. Tell me a little about yourselves: Where are you from, hobbies, and of course, are you Team Sam or Team Dean?
Tony: “I’m originally from Gillette, WY but moved to Denver a few years ago to go to school. Natalie is from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada and has adapted very well to our strange American traditions. I mainly was teasing her since she’s Canadian. When we’re not just binge watching good shows or (currently) moving into our new house, my hobbies are drawing, writing, and cosplaying. She likes to crochet and watch Days of Our Lives when not watching Supernatural as well as reading, cooking, and playing with our dog too. Our Teams: Team Crowley for me, and Team Gadreel for her.”
The next story belongs to Savanah Overturf and her photo op experience. She had planned extensively for her photo op with Misha Collins and was worried if they let her carry out her plan. She and a friend had decorated a box to look like a present and had a bow to ask Misha wear. Her friend had a Christmas hat on. She was incredibly nervous and had asked the people in charge of the photo ops if it would be possible. It came down to asking Misha’s handler, and when she made her way to the photo room, his handler came up to her and said “you must be the ones who want to stick Misha in a box.” There they were in front of Misha and Savanah told him she was Santa and he wanted him to jump out of this box and be her present. Of course he did it. Epic photo op. Go Savanah!Faithful convention goer, Kathy Kitt had a heartfelt story to share. A few months ago she received a Facebook message from her 17 year old niece stating that she had just finished the first season of Supernatural. Her first reaction to Kathy was “those are the guys you get your picture taken with?” Kathy had parents’ permission and bought tickets to Denver Con. Kathy was so excited to take her and experience the Con through her eyes. Of course she loved every moment of the con. During photo ops she had introduced her niece to Misha Collins, who in turn introduced her to Mark Sheppard. She started out a “Dean Girl” going in to her Jensen Ackles photo op. She came out of their “Mishalecki” photo op with the idea that Misha and Kathy would be the disapproving aunt and uncle of her relationship with Jared. Jared smiled and took her in his arms. Misha and I stood next to them flipping them off. Hilariously she cut Misha and “Aunt Kathy” out of the photo op and now that beautiful photo of her and Jared is her profile picture. Needless to say she is now a “Sam Girl” and is already planning her next Con.
Shoshana Patocka had a story that proved how awesome the Supernatural family is. She and a new friend named Sonya and her kids had been waiting in an especially long autograph line Saturday night when a little magic had happened. She was frustrated that the ticket sale line for the Louden Swain concert had been taken down (Turns out they put back up tickets for the concert later, but I didn’t know that at the time.) Her husband had traveled with her, but was not in to the show as much as she was. He had been off enjoying Denver on his own, and she had convinced him to come to the concert that Saturday night. While Shoshana was complaining away, Sonya had some great news for her. She had seen a Facebook post that someone was giving away a ticket to the concert for free! It had been a duplicate she accidentally purchased. She quickly called her husband to tell him to get his butt to down to the Marriott. Within ten minutes or, she and Sonya and I met up with this amazing fan and thanked her profusely. Her husband came and they enjoyed one of the most moving and memorable concerts they had even been to. As we say “family don’t end with blood” and we all proved it this weekend.
