It’s that time of year again when NFL teams begin to open up their training camps to get ready to play the upcoming 2015 season. Here is a list of the current odds for teams to win the Super Bowl in the 2015 season as NFL training camps open. In addition to the odds, I’ve listed when each team opens camp and where each team is holding their training camp for the 2015 season.
Did anybody out there play football? It’s been decades since I played but I can still remember how hot those August football practices were in full pads and I don’t envy the NFL players practicing in the summer heat this year. At least they are getting paid to do it, but NFL players still make less money per player, on average, than do players in the NBA, MLB and NHL.
Winning the Super Bowl is the dream of most fans of teams in the NFL. In 1987, I was lucky enough to fulfill my dream and be at the Super Bowl in the Rose Bowl in beautiful Pasadena, California to watch my favorite NFL team, the New York Giants, win their first Super Bowl. The only thing that could have been better was if I had placed a bet on the Giants to win the Super Bowl during the 1986 season. Good luck to all the NFL teams and NFL fans and bettors in the 2015 season!
1. Seattle Seahawks – 5.5 to 1 odds
At odds of 5.5 to 1, the Seattle Seahawks are the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl in the 2015 season as NFL teams open up their training camps. The Seahawks came oh so close to winning the Super Bowl last year but Pete Carroll had to get cute and run a pass play instead of handing the ball off to Marshawn Lynch one more time on the goal line. That will go down as one of the biggest rocks ever pulled by a coach in NFL history.
The Seattle Seahawks are opening their training camp today at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center located along the shores of Lake Washington in Renton, Washington. The first Seahawks practice will take place on July, 31, 2015. The team’s first preseason game will be on Friday, August 14, 2015, vs the Denver Broncos.
2. Green Bay Packers – 6 to 1
How would the Super Bowl have turned out last year if the Green Bay Packers had won the NFC Championship game vs the Seattle Seahawks instead of blowing a 19-7 lead with five minutes left in the game? The Packers are 6 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl this season, which is the second lowest odds in the NFL so the odds makers believe in this team. The Packers opened their training camp yesterday and are holding their first practice today at St. Norbert College along the Fox River in De Pere, Wisconsin.
3. Indianapolis Colts – 8 to 1
Will this be the year Andrew Luck leads the Colts to a Super Bowl win? At odds of 8 to 1, Las Vegas thinks it just might be. The Colts open their training camp on August 1, 2015, and hold their first practice the next day. The Indianapolis Colts 2015 training camp is being held at Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana.
4. New England Patriots – 9 to 1
Would the New England Patriots be lower odds to repeat as Super Bowl Champions if the whole Tom Brady debacle was settled? Probably not, as 9 to 1 odds sound about right for the Pats this season. Even if Tom Brady serves the four-game suspension it’s only four games and who knows Jimmy Garropolo could be great. The Patriots opened camp yesterday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
5. Denver Broncos – 13 to 1
Is Peyton Manning shot? He sure looked like it at the end of last season. The Denver Broncos were the Super Bowl favorites at this time last year but are 13 to 1 odds this season. The Broncos open training camp today at the Paul D. Bowlen Memorial Broncos Stadium in Dove Valley, Colorado.
6. Dallas Cowboys – 14 to 1
There has long been a belief in the NFL that teams with great offensive lines are always Super Bowl threats and the Dallas Cowboys OL fits that bill in 2015. If you believe in that than 14 to 1 odds might be juicy for you. The Cowboys opened training camp yesterday at River Ridge Playing Fields in Oxnard, California.
7. Baltimore Ravens – 20 to 1
Lots to like with the Baltimore Ravens as they have a proven QB in Joe Flacco and a proven coach in John Harbaugh. The Ravens are 20 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl in the 2015 season. Baltimore opened its training camp yesterday at the Under Armour Performance Center located in Owings Mills, Maryland.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers – 25 to 1
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 25 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl this season. To get an early start on the season the Steelers opened their training camp on July 25, 2015, and the team has already had a few practices. The Steelers train at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania where they make plenty of beer. Not much better than ice cold one after a hard day’s work outside.
9. Philadelphia Eagles – 26 to 1
With odds of 26 to 1, it’s clear that some people in Vegas think Chip Kelly is a pretty good coach. Is he good enough to win a Super Bowl this year? The Philadelphia Eagles open training camp on August 1, 2015, at the NovaCare Complex in Philadelphia.
10. New York Giants – 32 to 1
My favorite NFL team, the New York Giants, are 32 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl this season. Would the Giants be lower odds if Jason-Pierre Paul hadn’t lost a finger using fireworks? Probably a bit lower, but the Giants do offer value because they have a proven QB and coach. The Giants open camp today at the Timex Performance Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
T-11. Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins – 35 to 1 odds each
The Arizona Cardinals open camp tomorrow at their home University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Must be pretty hot there for practices. The Buffalo Bills open camp today at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York. Does anybody really believe Rex Ryan can win the Super Bowl this season? The Miami Dolphins opened camp yesterday at Doctors Hospital Training Facility in Davie, Florida. Bring plenty of Gatorade to work out in South Florida this time of year.
T-14. Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers – 40 to 1
The Bengals open camp today at their home Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The Chiefs open training camp tomorrow at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. Will Andy Reid ever win a Super Bowl? The Saints opened camp yesterday at the luxury resort called The Greenbrier in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia, where the PGA has an annual tournament. Drew Brees is now 36 years old. The Chargers opened camp yesterday at Chargers Park in San Diego. If Philip Rivers was an elite QB the Chargers would not be as high as 40 to 1 odds.
T-18. Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions – 45 to 1
The Atlanta Falcons open camp today at their Falcons Training Facility in Flowery Branch, Georgia. What’s happened to Matt Ryan? The Carolina Panthers open camp today at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Is there any truth to the rumor that the kid in those Cam Newton TV commercials who is just warming up his arm is in camp to compete this year? The Detroit Lions open camp on August 2, 2015, at the Lions Training Facility in Allen Park, Michigan. The Lions need Matthew Stafford to be better than he has been to go places this season.
T-21. Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams – 50 to 1
The Houston Texans have big questions at QB this season. The Texans open camp tomorrow at the Houston Methodist Training Center in Houston, Texas. The Minnesota Vikings get Adrian Peterson back and have reason to hope with Teddy Bridgewater at QB. The Vikings opened camp on July 25, 2015, at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota. The St. Louis Rams open camp on July 31, 2015, at Rams Park Training Center in Earth City, Missouri. Is Nick Foles any good or was he a product of Chip Kelly’s system? Rams fans want to know.
24. Chicago Bears – 60 to 1
In Jay Cutler we trust? Bears fans have learned by now that Jay Cutler has a golden arm and a tin brain. At least he’s married to a hottie in Kristin Cavalleri. The Chicago Bears opened camp yesterday at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. I’m sure a shot of bourbon goes down smooth after a day of NFL practice but the town was named for a fur trapper.
T-25. New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers – 65 to 1
Do Jets fans believe in new coach Todd Bowles? At odds of 65 to 1 it’s clear that the odds makers do not believe in Bowles yet in his first season as a head coach. The Jets opened camp yesterday at Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, New Jersey not too far from where I live and it’s been super hot this week. The San Francisco 49ers were one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl last year but with Jim Harbaugh gone to Michigan the team is much higher odds in 2015. The 49ers open camp tomorrow at the SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California.
T-27. Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 100 to 1
The Oakland Raiders open camp today at the Napa Valley Marriott, in Napa, California. Funny, I never took the Raiders to be wine drinking kind of fellows. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers open camp tomorrow at One Buccaneer Place in Tampa, Florida. Does anybody out there believe in Lovie Smith? He’s coached one team to a Super Bowl appearance and his Bucs are 100 to 1 odds. He’s got a loose but talented cannon at QB in rookie Jamies Winston.
29. Cleveland Browns – 115 to 1
Remember last year when some self proclaimed NFL experts like Mike Francesa from WFAN radio and FOX Sports were telling everyone how Johnny Manziel had something special was going to be a star QB? How did that turn out? The Cleveland Browns opened camp yesterday at the Browns Training Complex in Berea, Ohio.
30. Washington Redskins – 125 to 1
Did you see where one unnamed NFL offensive coach said that RGIII is done as an effective NFL QB? Robert Griffin III is only 25 years old so it’s way too early to be writing him off totally. Washington opened its training camp yesterday at the Bon Secours Training Center in Richmond, Virginia. Did you know that RGIII was born in Okinawa Prefecture in Japan? His mom and dad were sergeants in the Army and stationed in Japan when RGIII was born.
31. Jacksonville Jaguars – 150 to 1
Will Blake Bortles progress this season? Jacksonville Jaguars fans better hope so. The Jaguars open camp today at the Florida Blue Health and Wellness Practice Fields in Jacksonville, Florida. Bring plenty of cold drinks for that camp in the Florida summer heat and humidity.
32. Tennessee Titans – 175 to 1
At odds of 175 to 1, the Tennessee Titans have the highest Super Bowl odds of any team for the 2015 NFL season. Guess you could say that the Las Vegas odds makers do not believe too much in first round pick Marcus Mariota. The Titans open camp today at Saint Thomas Sports Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
