So often when we face uncertainty, discouragement and trials, we pause and ask ourselves, “Where is God!” However, when we are riding high on life and things are going our way and everything is coming up roses, God must ask, “Where are My People?”
So often we use God like a medication that we take from the medicine cabinet to take when there is something wrong. We don’t go around thinking all day long, that the Tylenol, Advil, Motrin are all right there in the cabinet protecting me against that next headache, that next pain. But when they arrive, that is the first thing we think about – looking for a remedy for what ails us. So often we give little thought to God until we need Him.
America is in trouble, America is in pain, America needs a huge dose of spiritual pain medication. And America needs God. Turn on the television, pick up a newspaper, or listen to the anguish, afflictions, suffering, anger and depravity of those around us and we ask, “Where is God?”
Just a point to remember, God has not moved, God has not changed, for God changes not. God is not hiding. God has not turned His back on America; America has turned its back on God.
Our land is becoming more and more lawless and that is because we have become more and more Godless. God only comes into the hearts of mankind when He is invited. He is a gentleman; He does not go where He is not wanted.
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and so many godly leaders knew that the survival and prosperity of American rested in the hands of God based on how receptive America was of God.
David the Psalmist of the Bible knew who God was and as a young boy with only pebbles and a sling shot defeated the greatest of all the giants of his time.
He wrote in Psalm 100, “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.” (We have chosen to shout praises toward mere human beings rather than Holy God. We worship the creatures rather than the Creator).
“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs.” (We have chosen to come before the Lord with bitterness and anger and before mere man with our praise for their songs).
“Know that the Lord is God” (We are constantly confronted with those who deny the existence of God and strive to prove to others there is no Holy God).
“It is He who made us, and we are his,” (Americans are very possessive people. That which we make, build, or create, we claim wholeheartedly that those things are ours; yet we deny the Creator of all things, including ourselves, His right to that ownership.)
“We are His people, the sheep of His pasture.” (We belong to the one who created us and we were designed to need Him. Just as wandering sheep needs a safe place and an overseer, we too need God. When sheep, like us, are left untended and cared for, they wander away into the dangerous world of predators- robbers, murderers, and all other measures of evil against them.)
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving,” (Rather than entering into His gate of protection, we have to live in gated communities, buy guns, and stand diligently against all harm and danger that lurks around every corner). There was actually a time in America when people slept with their doors unlocked and opened; and left the keys in their cars and their children played anywhere safely.
(We choose not to be thankful for His love and protection and give ourselves to the world not being thankful for all that God has provided for us. And it is never enough, we only want more and more that cannot satisfy us like drinking salty water to satisfy our thirst.)
“And enter His courts with praise,” (We choose not to enter into places of praise, song, and worship but into the courts of lawlessness, the courts of injustice, the courts of drug abuse, the courts of alcoholism, the courts of child abuse, the courts of rape, the courts of insufficiency, the courts of laziness, and the courts of self-degradation).
“Give thanks to Him and praise his name,” (Rather than give God the thanks and praise, we pour it on celebrities, careers, and personal achievement; heaping praise on ourselves and others).
“For the Lord is good and His love endures forever.” (Since God had no beginning and has no ending, He is eternal and will live and reign forever, and forever as He always has and always will; but our relationship with Him has to be mutual; we must come to Him in repentance in order to be restored to Him and to receive His blessings once again upon America).
“His faithfulness continues through all generations.,”(God brought people to this beautiful land in different phases. Already here were what is called “native peoples” when the Europeans arrived, and there have been millions upon millions of immigrants who have immigrated here from lands all across the world and God made them all. He made all the land and it belongs to Him.
His faithfulness endured through all the labor pains in the birth of a new nation – one that was His nation built out of the evil and turmoil of other nations. And through the obedience of those people, America became the greatest of all nations and was blessed with more beauty, resources, and opportunities than any other nation in the world. And, what did He get in return? A people who denies His existence, has turned their backs on Him, and have trampled underfoot all that He provided.)
As we face yet another embroiled election next year, will we continue to tread the same path away from God and will one disaster after the other be waiting around the corner? How long will God allow this to happen? First, He bids for our attention and repentance. In His faithfulness will He still hear and heal our land? Or will we continue to look for mankind to do the impossible? It does not matter who is in the White House – when there is no one in God’s House. It is He who hath made us and not we ourselves.
There is hope and there is a remedy from God’s medicine chest that can heal our land – while there is yet time. Yet we must willingly take the dose. which is:
“If (My) people, which are called by (My) name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek (My) face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will (I) hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14
It is we who have broken the contract with God that our forefathers agreed upon and a contract that served Americans well for over 200 years. America has fallen into the footsteps of the fall of Rome and other nations.
Historians have plotted the path of nations and find there are ten stages for a nation and we can see all of these footprints in America throughout this statement. Kerby Anderson states the following in his dissertation on “The Decline of a Nation.”
“The first stage moves from bondage to spiritual faith. The second from spiritual faith to great courage. The third stage moves from great courage to liberty. The fourth stage moves from liberty to abundance. The fifth stage moves from abundance to selfishness. The sixth stage moves from selfishness to complacency. The seventh stage moves from complacency to apathy. The eighth stage moves from apathy to moral decay. The ninth stage moves from moral decay to dependence. And the tenth and last stage moves from dependence to bondage.”
Could it be possible for America to stop before the last stage of this proven cycle? Yes, with God all things are possible but without God this is probable.
