As a seasoned traveler, you probably have racked in a lot, too many, hours at the airport. It may be due to a compulsive need to get there early, and annoying delay, a layover that made your flight a little cheaper or an all-together cancelation of your flight whatever the reason, you have some time to kill.
Whatever you do, find out how and where to tap in to the Internet. This is definitely a no-brainer, but in some airports it proves to be more difficult than it sounds. Some gates will actually be too far away to pick up the signal from the main airport.Even at major airports. This can be a problem if you are depending on soaking up some net to kill the in between time, but don’t despair after all that scenario is what this list is for.
Look around you; does this airport have awesome things built in? For example, airports have art exhibits occasionally and other mini-museum like exhibits. Most airports though have gotten with the times and now have amenities from shopping, of course dining and some times spas. Also, what is your airports location known for? In a big foodie destination, there’s bound to be some awesome food options to explore.
Magazines can be your friends. While they may be a little pricey at times, the airport is the best time to be able to actually read them. This is especially true if the Internet is inaccessible or you get bored with it, you will have all the time to look through read and engage with the glossy of your choice. If you get a travel mag, you can even begin to plan your next trip.
Game portably, this can be on a laptop, phone or even device designed just for this. The beauty of a lot of portable games is that you don’t have to be online to play them, and depending on the title you choose, it will be addicting enough to kill all of that extra time.
Be that person who does yoga in the middle of the airport. Everyone may steal a glance, but they also are probably thinking that they should join you. Being stuck in an airplane seat can be awful, but in an effort to make that misery a little better, indulge in some stretching and/or yoga to ease the pain. If it is comforting, know that you probably won’t see this particular flock of travelers again.
If you were planning to start a blog, now is a good time. Word works offline, and when you are force to be completely still some of the best thoughts may come out. This doesn’t just go for starting a blog, get a start on any of those other projects that you may not have had time for. Airport time is also a good time to plan.
There are many other things to do at the airport that aren’t listed here (sleep, get into your personal book club list, go to the bar) which is comforting if you have a while to wait.
