On September 23, Christian News out of the UK reports cutting-edge news including streaming of the Pope’s speech in Washington D. C. in which he speaks of the need to strengthen marriages and families. Streaming live, breaking, and filmed news events is commonplace today for news organizations, as is streaming of entertainment news, interviews, trailers and more.
Further, there is growing, ongoing news about new video streaming sources and services around the world that in many cases is superseding earlier forms of news and entertainment delivery. Many good content providers are now streaming in real time or in filmed versions worthwhile, redemptive, family movies and artistic events: TCM, PBS, Kennedy Center, PureFlix.com, Morningstar Video (at mstarvid.com) and many more. They provide for viewers what they want and when they want it.
It is interesting and encouraging to see that Netflix.com (which provides a broad range of content, quality, and genres) is now providing more and more good family, redemptive, and children’s programming via streaming, as well as by DVD rental. ( Further, Movieguide.org provides many valuable reviews for family movies on Netflix.) Some of the recent Netflix streaming releases that are more suitable for families of various ages include: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Catching Faith,” “Patterns of Evidence- Exodus,” “Confessions of a Prodigal Son,” “Adventures of Puss in Boots,” “Gospel of John,” “Pandas,” “Lego City,” and “Veggie Tales” (whose creator continues to produce good programming for children).
Because television can often be disappointing; thankfully, viewers can frequently see better programming on their tv sets with streaming video that is provided via the Internet. For example, the reboot of “The Muppets” last evening on ABC in which the classic characters are set in the mundane drudgery of the television production office is extremely dull compared to the classic Muppet capers. (See what the Atlantic says about this in their report “The Felt Drudgery of The Muppets.”) Fortunately, those who want to see classic Muppet shows with their families and friends, can see classic Muppet antics on streaming services. It is also a relief to know that families can access classic Disney shows through streaming services in place of many of the current Disney television shows with much lower standards than in the past.
Also, because faith-based television networks and programs are so often disappointing, it is wonderful to have direct access to the best of faith-based programming of speakers, events, and services through direct streaming that is more and more available through new services and sources. Viewers can search online for streaming of presentations by their favorite teachers, performers, organizations and more.
It is interesting to note on Rentrak’s latest data for the top-selling movies worldwide and domestically (via theaters, rentals, VOD , digital services and more) that the following redemptive and family movies have been top-sellers in multiple formats: “War Room,” “Home,” “Inside Out,” “Ant-Man,” “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” and more. This is largely because of growing interest and support of uplifting, wholesome, and edifying entertainment in all formats.
Consumer feedback is significant with streaming, as with all forms of entertainment, because what is provided, kept, withdrawn is determined by viewers’ choices in what they see, rate, review and more. The current ongoing Renaissance of artistry and Reformation of content will continue as long as viewers are socially responsible and constructively engaged in ways that contribute to production of good artistry and content in all forms.
