There may be a lot of dialogue for such young actors, but the participants in the 10th Annual High School Summer Musical Theatre Experience of “The Wizard of Oz” did not miss a line or a cue. Opening night appeared to be flawless and you’ll have the opportunity to see it for yourself this weekend.
The lighting, costumes, backdrop-movie-screen-curtains and floating props really enhance the original story. The young lady who maneuvers Toto across the stage is attentive to Dorothy and the other cast members. At first the puppeteer appears to be a liability as she responds to movements and barks, but she is a great asset as she blends her character into each scene.
There are many age variations for the cast, yet everyone conducts themselves as professionals. This two act musical brings these talented blossoming students from Jacksonville and the surrounding areas into one venue. Even if your child is not a participant in the musical, they will enjoy this production of “The Wizard of Oz” and they may desire to design, act, dance, sing or be a part of the show themselves next summer.
Some of the schools that are represented by these budding artists include: Bartram Trail High School, Bishop John J. Snyder Catholic High School, Bishop Kenny High School, Bolles High School, Brava School of Dance & Theater, Creekside High School, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Duncan U.
