The Atlanta Steam (3-2) dropped from No. 2 to No. 4 in the final regular season Legends (formerly Lingerie) Football League Power Ranking that was released on Sunday following Chicago’s 42-0 win against Omaha Saturday night. The two-spot fall in the ranking has to be surprising to Atlanta fans, many of which believe the league often displays a lack of respect to the team despite both a division and conference title in just two seasons in the league.
Final regular season ranking along with the accompanying league comments:
1. Chicago Bliss (5-0)
The Bliss finished as the only unbeaten team in 2015. Strengths are their power run game and a solid run defense.
2. Seattle Mist (4-1)
Finally have the horses and franchise Quarterback to compete. Potentially the only team remaining that could dethrone Chicago, if they remain healthy.
3. Los Angeles Temptation (3-2-1)
The return of their legendary Quarterback Ashley Salerno could make for a very interesting and epic run into the post-season. Simply lacks the talent of its previous season’s rosters.
4. Atlanta Steam (3-2)
With Atlanta’s only wins coming against Omaha, the Steam are perhaps the most over-rated team of 2015. The Steam defense lacks intensity and the offense lacks a consistent running attack.Combined with poor coaching decisions at key times, and doubt has been created.
5. Las Vegas Sin (0-4-1)
Too many roster changes resulted in a lack of overall consistency. The future looks bright with young talent.
6. Omaha Heart (0-6)
Despite the worst season of any franchise in league history, Omaha continues to fight for respect. A complete overhaul in the off-season seems apparent.
As if the drop in the ranking wasn’t enough to upset Steam fans, starting the evaluation with “Perhaps the most over-rated team of 2015” adds fuel to the fire. While Atlanta fans may have a legitimate point, the reality is that the league-wide lack of respect is not going to end until Atlanta beats Chicago. The Steam will have their next opportunity to do just that this Saturday, August 15 when the teams square-off in Chicago to decide the Eastern Conference championship.
Atlanta is 0-3 against Chicago, including a loss in last year’s Legends C up when the Bliss were the Western Conference champs, and must find a way to stop Chicago workhorse ChrisDell Harris to force quarterback Heather Furr to go to the air. The Bliss is nearly unbeatable when they can run at will, which is usually the case, but become vulnerable if forced to pass.
For quarterback Dakota Hughes to lead Atlanta to their second consecutive league title game, the Steam defense, led by middle linebacker Leanne Hardin, must force turnovers as well as contain Harris.
Chicago is the defending two-time LFL champion, and is talking about a 3-pete as well as a dynasty. Atlanta can earn some respect and end all that talk by leaving Chicago with a W, but a fourth consecutive loss will forever leave the 2015 team as the “most overrated” team of the season in the eyes of all but the Atlanta faithful.
