There are a few very simple things you can do to ensure you look wonderful for the Holidays and all the parties, gatherings and inevitable group photos. From your eating routine to your hair, you can make a huge difference almost effortlessly. And wouldn’t it be great to look fantastic without really trying too hard this Holiday Season? Well, with just incorporating a couple of things into your daily routine, you can. It’s amazing the big difference you can make if you start now to look your best for the Holidays. Begin with a plan of taking in more of the things that make you glow, less of the things that don’t and throwing in a few simple extras.
Take in more of these
Begin by making the decision to follow a very simple regime that won’t take any time or thought. First promise to take in more clean, fresh water than usual on a daily basis. Try to drink at least 6-8 glasses per day. You may already be ahead of the game and be doing this anyway. The extra water will hydrate the tissues and organs, help you to feel better and begin to work on that glow. Next, buy a few extra vegetables and fruit that you love or even natural, unsweetened fruit juice and promise to take in just two more servings than you have been per day. Of course, more is better but the idea is to stick with it and to keep it simple and effortless. Then, if you’re not already, purchase a few life-enhancing supplements. Start to take a multi-vitamin, extra vitamin C (collagen, vein integrity, eye health), Vitamin D (the important sunshine vitamin), Vitamin E (skin and heart health) and a quality Omega 3 capsule (fish oil for skin, heart, brain). Add these vitamins to your daily routine and your eyes will sparkle, your skin will feel smooth and you will have more energy.
Take in less of these
Drop just one serving of a carbohydrate per day. This means if you have cereal and then two breads at lunch in a sandwich, and rice/pasta or potatoes at night, you will knock off one serving. It’s easiest to do at lunch or dinner. Just have one bread in a sandwich and eat a little extra protein to fill yourself up. Or have the sandwich and drop the carb from dinner. Change it daily to suit yourself. Simple.
Next, consciously eat a little less fat and a little less sugar than normal. If you put a teaspoon of sugar in your coffee, just put in half. If you have two cookies at night for desert, just have one. And perhaps try going slightly lighter on the butter or salad dressing or vegetable oil. That’s it. This isn’t a diet, just a slight lifestyle change. The idea is that with very little effort, you may drop just a few pounds by Christmas so that you look great in those Holiday outfits. And of course if you’re already a great weight, you don’t have to do anything, but do still eat the two extra servings of fruit or veggies. Those two additional servings will seriously add to that glow and your health, for that matter.
Add a few extras
If you don’t already have a dynamic lipstick and some quality makeup to enhance your good looks, make a few simple purchases. Recommended- is a new, fantastic, brightly-coloured lipstick, a natural soft blush, good mascara, and an eyeliner that glides and is easy to use in charcoal, dark brown, dark anything or black.
This year, deep reds, berries, violets, and oxbloods are all the rage in lipstick, if you want to “festive-up” your look. Rosy cheeks are back in this year and that’s great news to give you that “ just in from the cold” look. But it’s the addition of flattering colour and a bit of definition to the brows and eyes that will turn their heads and make you look your best! If you’re not sure, ask at the makeup counter for answers and advice. But keep it simple, so you still look like you, just- “Holiday-enhanced”. These few extras in makeup will make all the difference at gatherings, dos’ and parties.
The crowning glory
Some good advice is not to have your hair cut or coloured in any new way just before the Holidays! If disaster happens- this is not the time for it. Stick with what you know suits you. But if you do want to add something different like highlights or a splash of colour- do it early, so that if works- wonderful, but if it doesn’t- you’ll have time to correct it!
With your simple extra diligence and the good habits you have incorporated, your clothes will fit you comfortably, your skin will glow, your hair will be perfect and your makeup will enhance your features. Family and friends will notice you look wonderful and that’s a great way to enter into the fun and festive Holiday Season!
