Hollywood’s top billed actors are some of television’s fan-favorites in comic book TV. These superstars portray characters ripped right out of comics pages. They’re top billing status are coming to Baltimore Convention Sept. 25 to 27th. Because media guests making appearances at one recognized comics-centric convention. Baltimore Comic-Con has stars reuniting with the cover-to-cover roots where their cast portrayals originated.
Over the Sept.s final weekend, stars from “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Arrow” will be featured guests.
Ming-Na Wen plays Melinda May on ABC’s “The Avengers” spinoff, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Ming-Na is a film and television star well-known from “Push”, “Mulan”, “ER” and a stand-out performance in the film “The Joy Luck Club”. One pivotal point in her career has been the first Asian-American contract role on a daytime series when she appeared on “As the World Turns” having the role of Lien Hughes. Agent Melinda May has been a pivotal role on the ABC super-spy series, and has become an Agent of celebrated status by audiences.
“We’ve been working to get Ming-Na as a guest this year for a while,” said Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “The planets finally aligned, and we are ecstatic to be able to announce her attendance in September. She has done such fantastic work, from dramatic roles to action adventure, and we love Agent May! We know her fans will be lining up to get to meet her in a few short weeks!”
CW’s “Arrow” has made a high ratings name for itself and ensuing spinoff shows; all by its upcoming 4th season. From the network’s tentpole superhero series spreading the Arrowverse actor Paul Blackthorne and Katie Cassidy will be featured guests at BCC ’15.
Blackthorne has recent recognition prior to playing Lieutenant Detective Quentin Lance. A short back when he starred as Harry Dresden, the magician and detective of author John Butcher’s popular books brought on “The Dresden Files” on the then-SciFi channel. Blackthorne later regularly starred on “Lipstick Jungle” and on “The Gates”. Prior to “Dresden” the British-actor was on “24”.
Katie Cassidy is starring in an “Arrow” role that has developed Laurel Lance from an integral tryptich of complicated friend/lover/hero cohort with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell). As the series goes into an upcoming season 4 there are eagerly awaiting viewers wanting to see more of the Black Canary that assumes more the part and powers connected to the superheroine’s comic book counterpart. Before training and suiting up to become Black Canary Cassidy appeared in “Melrose Place”, “Taken” and 2010s “Nightmare on Elm Street”.
“This is really exciting for us,” said Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “We constantly get requests for more media guests, but as a comic book convention, we are specifically interested in staying true to our roots. We’re all fans of Arrow and enjoy seeing interpretations of our favorite comic book characters make the leap to television and in movies, so being able to announce Katie and Paul as our first media guests of 2015 is a thrill and a treat. We know their fans, and fans of the show in general, are going to be ecstatic to hear this news!”
The boom of aired science fiction hasn’t been only confined to comic book television. Actor Raphael Sbarge starring from “Once Upon a Time” is also a featured media guest. Sbarge plays Dr. Hopper on ABC’s successful town of story book characters. Sbarge merges well into the comics-centric Baltimore Comic-Con. The actor has his likeness in a sci-fi comic book series Lantern City, published by Boom Studios.
“When our friends at BOOM! Studios told us they might be able to get Raphael to the show because of his work on Lantern City, we were pretty excited with the prospect,” said Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “We’re big fans of his work, and love to watch Once Upon a Time, like so many of our attendees, so when we sealed the deal, we were thrilled!”
During 2004 to 2009 the science fiction remake of television’s “Battlestar Galactica” light-sped a sci-fi outlook to a dramatic forefront according to critics and audiences. Edward James Olmos of “Blade Runner” fame was commanding regular for that salient hit series. Olmos will be coming to the Baltimore Comic-Con with that show in evidence along with the actor’s present day part in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”.
Olmos has also starred in 2013s well-received “2 Guns” alongside Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, as well as Showtime’s mega-hit series “Dexter”.
Katie Cassidy will be appearing at the BCC ’15 on Sunday only. Paul Blackthorne will be attending both Saturday and Sunday. Ming-Na Wen and Raphael Sbarge will have their panels and photo ops on Saturday only. Edward James Olmos will be attending on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The 2015 Baltimore Comic-Con begins on Friday, Sept. 25 at Inner Harbor’s localed Baltimore Convention Center.
