This time of year is a bit crazy for all of us. We have our typical appointments, work and with the upcoming holidays, things can get hectic. Feeding the family a healthy meal is still at the top of the list. Many find themselves in fast food drive-throughs more often than they would like.
Eating fish at least twice a week has been proven to be a healthy choice. What better time to begin a good, healthy eating regime than when we are young? Children need protein to grow properly and to maintain their growing bodies. Tuna is a favorite of many kids and the StarKist Kid’s Creations® is a great way to invite them to eat more fish.
StarKist Kid’s Creations® is packaged in the handy on-the-go pouch design first introduced by StarKist®. The tuna honey BBQ flavor is ready to eat right out of the easy to open package or made into a meal. If you’re like most families, the search is on for something healthy, yet quick for those evenings when there isn’t time to sit for a large meal.
The pouch is simple to open. Grasp the tab above the indentation and pull. It opens easily, without scissors or a knife. Kids can grab-and-go with no hassle of getting the package open before they’re in the car. While the tuna is moist, it is firm enough to avoid dripping, oozing messes in the seat of the car. The honey BBQ flavor exists, without the overflow of sauce.
When tasting the tuna, the flavor of fish was at the forefront of the experience. The honey BBQ taste was there, although it was more like a smoked tuna flavor instead of the typical BBQ sauce. The taste of fish pushed the honey BBQ sauce flavor to the back of the line, instead of letting the sauce shine. It was good tasting, if you enjoy smoked tuna or salmon, but not what was expected when thinking about BBQ sauce. The flavor of honey was non-existent and the taste of BBQ sauce was in the form of smoke flavoring.
StarKist Kid’s Creations® can be made into meals as well as eaten right out of the pouch or enjoyed with crackers. The smoked fish flavor can be added to salads with a shredded smoked cheddar on top to really bring out that smokey taste. Tuna salad is a favorite. The recipe below focuses on the smokey taste of the fish and is easily altered if desired.
