48 hours after Star Wars’ fans woke up to see the international trailer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a new treat has been given. Star Wars Uk aired the first TV spot for the latest installment via Twitter Sunday morning. Earlier in the week, the public got to see the first character posters. Next, the trailer aired new footage along with extended dialogue from the film’s main characters. The new TV spot builds on that and shows off more footage with more cryptic dialogue. One big similarity between the international trailer and the TV spot is the central focuses on Rey(Daisy Ridley).
Next, the viewer is given insight into Rey as a fighter. She is no damsel in distress as we have see where defending herself against a space pirate of some sort. All the while, we hear this new voice say “I have lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people”. There is a familiar theme heard which hearkens to The Empire Strikes Back when Luke’s X-Wing was raised from the swamp by Yoda. Then there is an introduction to the beautiful sound of familiarity with the Millennium Falcon flying by what looks like a forest planet. The most important detail goes back to the voice-which belongs to that of Academy- Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, playing Maz Kanata. She seems to connect the heroes of the last generation to the new ones. The shots share a rhythm of eyes with most of the focus on Rey.
Han Solo is seen along the way of the trailer on a planet with snow and then the film picks up and is intense. The music builds up and then Rey shoots and the next scene shows Ren blocking what looks to be a laser blast. Yet again we’re unsure whether Kanata is speaking to Rey or Finn (John Boyega). On the other hand, this TV spot focuses heavily on the scavenger from Jakku. Once again, a lot is given, but very little is given away. The Audience witnesses a lot of flash, beautiful special effects, and
the magic that Star Wars gives to the fans.
The immediate fate that awaits this new generation of characters is not good, but they realize they will have to move forward together to face what is ahead. The international trailer and TV spots have given us Chewbacca causing destruction, C-3PO with Leia, and new angles of Poe in a massive dogfight. Just like the trailers, Luke Skywalker is still kept silent and under wraps. At this point, we know Rey is threatened and can fight her way out of it. Next the viewers are even greeted by a quick shot of Rey flying the Millennium Falcon. Star Wars: The Force Awakens lands into theaters December 18th.
