EA and DICE are working on what many view as the most anticipated game of 2015, Star Wars Battlefront. The game releases on Nov. 17, but this is a major weekend for the game and everyone involved with the title because the open beta for Battlefront has commenced for some and will fully commence tomorrow.
In what will surely be a heavy, heavy traffic weekend for Star Wars Battlefront’s servers, gamers are expected to pour in from all over the world to get a taste of what is coming on Nov. 17. I was fortunate enough to get sometime with the game yesterday and today, and it gives me great pleasure to provide a very positive report of my experience thus far.
Star Wars Battlefront is gorgeous and its visuals were the first thing to strike me when I stepped into the game. Battlefront has some of the best looks of any shooter out there today. Sometimes we see a gameplay slice at E3 or Gamescom and then when the beta or full game is released, visuals have been changed. That doesn’t seem to be the case at all, as Battlefront looks as beautiful as it did when we saw it earlier this summer.
The game’s systems and controls are quite simple to get a hold of and the overall feel, look and sound of the game makes you want to do nothing but continue playing the game. Gamers can snag Star Cards that provide people with a special weapon or item has a cooldown. These things can range from a single-shot sniper-rifle to a grenade.
Gameplay movement is absolutely beautiful and silky smooth. Running around maps, capturing pods and taking on enemies all feels great. Everything about Star Wars Battlefront seems on point, from the visuals, to the sounds, to the weapons themselves. This is just as much of a showcase as it is a technical test for development purposes.
An example of the game’s visual superiority is the animation for when a grenade explodes. This is a subtle, minor part of the game to mention, but it gave me great joy to witness the beauty of a grenade exploding. If you haven’t already done so, go ahead and see for yourself, toss ’em if you got ’em.
Getting into the actual gameplay a bit more, it’s crazy to think, but there are already players who have jumped into the beta and look like near experts. Perhaps these are developers who are trying to add to the amount of gamers online, but some folks are already absurdly good at Star Wars Battlefront. What a saving grace the game’s skill-based matchmaking system will be once the full game launches this Nov. 17.
Star Wars Battlefront’s beta is open to all who wish to play the game, so if you’re on PC, PS4 or Xbox One, just go into your respective stores and you should have no problem downloading it. The game’s beta will run until this coming Mon. Oct. 12 and then it will expire. Star Wars Battlefront will launch on Nov. 17 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
