First it was Tom Cruise’s iconic black shirt and pants worn during a scene in “Mission Impossible.” Now comes word that items from two other film franchises will hit the auction block this fall.
Want to own a piece of that movie memorabilia? Fan of the Italian Stallion “Rocky” or “Rambo?”
Actor Sylvester Stallone says he will place some of his prized personal movie collection on the auction block in the fall with a portion of the proceeds benefiting military charities.
The 69-year-old actor says 1,400 props, costumes and personal items from his four-decade long career will go up for auction in October. Included in the sale are Rocky’s gloves, boxing trunks and boxing ring robe as well as Rambo’s Army jacket and knife.
But make no mistake about it, Stallone’s parceling out his movie memorabilia is not a sign that he is about ready to retire from the silver screen. To the contrary, Stallone reprises his role as Rocky Balboa in this fall’s release “Creed,” where Stallone is enlisted to train and mentor Adonis Creed, the son of former rival turned friend the late Apollo Creed. He is also actively working on the next installment of “Rambo.”
Stallone says a recent auction of the late-John Wayne’s items provided him with the inspiration to sell off some of his personal artifacts. He said he would rather see fans enjoy his collection while he is still alive rather than dead.
More than 700 costumes, scripts, awards and memorabilia from the John Wayne estate brought in more than $5.38 million during a two day-event. Some of the top selling Wayne items included the Duke’s signature green wool beret worn in the film “The Green Berets,” his Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his role in “True Grit,” and his last driver’s license.
Heritage Auctions will handle the Stallone inventory on October 14th and 15th. The actor says he will funnel some of the auction proceeds to demonstrate his appreciate of those who have inspired his most popular characters by supporting military charities. Heritage will likely release a catalog of Stallone’s items in the weeks leading up the mid-October sale.
Also up for grabs will be the Harley Davidson FLH model motorcycle Stallone rode in 1982’s “Rocky III” and in 1990’s “Rocky V.” Fans of the 1995 flick “Judge Dredd” will have a chance to bid on the costume he wore in the movie.
Christie’s auction house in London will handle the sale of Cruise’s costume on September 10th. The outfit could fetch around $11,000 when the final gavel is sounded.
