Nintendo has been known for consistently producing some of the most unique IP in the gaming industry today. The firm’s latest new IP Splatoon was released a few weeks back and with the amount of anticipation surrounding the game, it was bound to find impressive success.
Today, Nintendo announced the Nintendo Wii U’s latest IP Splatoon has surpassed the 1 million units sold mark. For gamers in the Americas, Splatoon has sold over 476,000 “physical and digital units” since it launched back in May. Not only that, but Japanese gamers have shown tremendous support for the game, as Splatoon sold over 368,000.
Europe has one of the strongest gaming markets in the world and they embraced Splatoon with a strong 230,000 units sold since launch. For those who live in Australia and New Zealand, Nintendo reported the Wii U’s Splatoon sold over 20,000 units over the first few weeks the game has been available. Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime spoke about the exciting Splatoon news.
“Ever since Splatoon launched on May 29 in the United States, we’ve seen thousands of people go online to have fun in this colorful, chaotic competition. This milestone puts us in a nice position as we prepare to launch 11 more exclusive Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games before the end of the year, plus amiibo, digital offerings and games from our third-party partners,” Fils-Aime said.
It’s undeniable that Nintendo has consistently produced the most unique and innovative IP over the course of their history. They work hard to create games and experiences that are different, and Splatoon is the latest proof of that.
Major upcoming Wii U titles include Yoshi’s Woolly World, which launches in two days, and Super Mario Maker, which will launch on Sept. 11. Big upcoming 3DS games include Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations.
