Tom Holland will make his debut as Spider-Man in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ next year, and while his character made no appearance in the trailer released this past week, the 19-year-old is looking forward to unveiling his superhero suit. Holland expressed his excitement over playing the web-slinger and admits in a new interview that he has a number of Spider-Man costumes from his childhood.
“I have always been a huge fan of Spider-Man, and growing up I had countless Spider-Man costumes,” he told Superhero Hype. “Only two years ago did I go to a fancy dress party dressed as Spider-Man. I had this awesome morph suit where you can put your phone on your chest and spiders would crawl across the costume, it was awesome!” The actor revealed the character has always been a big part of his life because of his relatability.
Holland said, “I think one of the most interesting things about Peter Parker for us is that he’s the only person in the MCU now that has a secret identity, so we all know who everyone else is. I think it’s quite interesting to go back to that hiding behind a mask.” Holland explained he is thrilled to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and revealed he has been mentored by Robert Downey Jr. “Robert did my first screen test and he was so welcoming,” he said. “He took me aside and gave me a little advice about the audition.” Holland will make his debut in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ on May 6, 2016 before getting a standalone film in 2017.
