As we get into the weeks closer to Christmas, you’ll be likely doing some holiday entertaining. It’s fun to have friends and family visit us over the Christmas season and enjoy some good food together. I have a special punch recipe that would fit right in with the holidays, and it makes a large amount, so it would work great for parties, too. For these festive occasions, “Spicy Cranberry Punch” will be perfect!
This is one that I’ve had before and it’s very flavorful with a mixture of cinnamon, cranberry and citrus flavors To start with, you’ll need some red cinnamon candies, which can be found easily in the candy section of many stores. These are melted in water, then this is chilled. When serving time arrives, this cinnamon mixture is combined with cranberry juice cocktail, and frozen limeade and orange juice concentrates. This is all combined and it’s now ready for the punch bowl. You can make this in advance and take out what you need to add to the punch bowl as you serve it.
As you can see, it’s a snap to make. If you wanted to float an ice chunk in the bowl, you could, but I don’t advise that since this would tend to make the punch watered down. I would suggest freezing a portion of the punch in a separate container and adding that to the bowl upon serving. This would keep the punch cold without it becoming watery. You could even freeze some of this punch in ice trays (if you still have any!) and add this to the punch like you would ice cubes to keep the punch cold.
A great “munchie” to go with this punch would be some cheese straws. I passed along a recipe a while back for “Buttercup Cheese Straws”, which would be great for entertaining or even gift-giving this season. To get the recipe, click on the embedded link to get the recipe.
So, get out the punch bowl and make you a list of the things you want to serve along with this punch as we get into the holiday season!
SPICY CRANBERRY PUNCH
- 1/4 cup red cinnamon candies
- 4 cups water
- 8 cups cranberry juice cocktail, chilled
- 1 can (6 oz.) frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
- 1 can (6 oz.) frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
In a small saucepan, melt the cinnamon candies in the water over medium heat until candy is dissolved. Chill. At serving time, combine the chilled candy mixture with the fruit juice and juice concentrates. Stir to combine well. May be made in advance and chilled until serving time. Part of the punch mixture may be frozen and added to the punch bowl with the punch to help keep it cold. Yield: about 18 5 oz. servings.
