Judges on Sunday chose Minnesota’s representative to the 2016 Miss Teen USA Pageant. Sophia Primozich was crowned Miss Minnesota Teen USA 2016 on Sunday following two days of pageantry at The Ames Center in Burnsville. The teen pageant is part of the Miss Universe Organization. In recent years, it has been held during the summer. A precise date and location will be announced at a later date. Contestants are judged in three equal areas of competition; interview, evening gown and swimwear.
If Primozich is crowned Miss Teen USA, she will become the first contestant from Minnesota to win the national competition. The highest placement in the state, so far, was by Miss Minnesota 2013 Maggie McGill, who was fourth runner-up.
Earlier Sunday, Bridget Jacobs was crowned Miss Minnesota USA 2016. She will represent Minnesota at next year’s Miss USA Pageant. If she wins the national competition, she will represent the United States at the Miss Universe Pageant. As is the case of state contestants, national and international competitions are judged equally in the categories of interview, evening gown and swimwear.
Jacobs would be the second Minnesota contestant to be crowned Miss USA. The first was Miss Minnesota 1976 Barbara Peterson. On Sunday, Jacobs was crowned by Miss Minnesota USA 2015 Jessica Scheu. Scheu is a former first runner-up at the Miss International Pageant.
Future Productions, located in Minneapolis, holds the franchise for the Miss Minnesota USA pageants. It also holds franchises for Miss Universe-affiliated pageants in several other states.
