Finally we have a relateable and actually funny sitcom that reaches our comedic core, with a beginning…middle and end we can groove on…and it’s on NBC, go figure. Called Mr.Robison, musical creator of such hilarious hit songs, well at least on this show, as “Chocolate Muffin” and “”The Object of My Affection” .””But not you Baby”… starring Craig P. Robinson, who fan’s have known up to now as a stand-up comedian, and singer. He is best known for his role as Darryl Philbin on The Office, and his roles in the films Pineapple Express, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Hot Tub Time Machine and This Is the End.
It’s an easy gig, for him in “Mr. Robinson,” he plays Craig Robinson, playing a struggling artist, who knows just what it takes, you have to pay the bills while you wait for that big break…with his band Nasty Delicious. So when Craig finds himself short on cash, he takes a job as a substitute high school music teacher. At an inner-city school in the southside of Chicago, where the kids think his class is easy pizi, Craig’s moved to inspire his students.
Also starring along with Craig Robinson, former “Frazier star Peri Gilpin,as well as, Ben Koldyke, Brandon T. Jackson,who plays Craig’s little brother and band manager has appeared in the movie Tropic Thunder, Percy Jackson & the Olympians and in Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. Also Kelsey Grammers daughter Spencer Grammer, who appeared in Rick and Morty and also recently in, As the World Turns. Also appearing in Mr.Robinson, Amandla Stenberg,who played Rue in the 2012 film The Hunger Games, and finally Tim Bagley, who most recently played Richard Pratt on the Showtime series, Web Therapy, with Lisa Kudrow.
Craig in his new sitcom has basically stayed in his personal wheel house, sort of the way Seinfeld did in the 90’s. You see Craig in real life was born in Chicago, Illinois, to a music teacher mother,after college Craig’s profession was as a music teacher in the south side of Chicago at Horace Mann Elementary School.
He began doing stand-up and taking classes in improv and acting at The Second City in Chicago. Then in 2005, he portrayed Darryl Philbin on the American version of The Office, and was promoted to a starring role in the fourth season. He has appeared on other television shows, including Arrested Development, Lucky, Friends, Halfway Home, and Reno 911!.Even doing a music video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers song “Hump de Bump”.
He also hosted the seventh season of Last Comic Standing.Craig also was in the HBO hit series Eastbound & Down. And now stars in the smash NBC’s hit MR. ROBINSON…WEDNESDAYS 9/8c.
