Smoothies aren’t a replacement for a healthy diet but the can be an integral part of maintaining a healthy one. Smoothies are great for integrating essential nutrients into your body that you may otherwise may not be getting. Also smoothies can help you reach your daily intake of recommended fiber to your daily diet. If you’re on a diet, drinking a smoothie daily is a great way to replace a meal that could otherwise deter you from your weight loss goals.
CVS Pharmacy recently released some new nutritional products to create healthy and delicious smoothies that are perfect for any time of the day. The Vegan Protein Smoothie packets come in three different flavors (mixed berry, chocolate and vanilla) and are available in two different sizes (1.5 oz for $2.99 and 16.5 oz for $23.99). Made for any and everyone, the CVS Vegan Protein Smoothes are an excellent source of protein, vitamins and minerals and help to support your metabolism and digestion. Each smoothie serving is only 210 calories and because it’s made with all natural ingredients the only sweetness you’ll find is stevia. But just having a smoothie or two or day isn’t enough. Two extras that you should add to any smoothie are chia seeds and coconut oil.
By adding chia seeds (CVS Raw Black Chia Seeds, $9.49) to a CVS Vegan Protein Smoothie you get an added bonus of protein, fiber, Omega 3 and 6 fats, minerals and long-burning fuel to last you all day long. Chia seeds also have five times the calcium of milk, can help balance your blood sugar levels and boost endurance levels. Because chia seeds have no flavor whatsoever you don’t have to worry about it changing the taste of your smoothies. Just mix it in to your smoothie for added thickness or just sprinkle on top as an added topper. Not sure how much to use? When adding chia seeds you can add up to three tablespoons of chia seeds to fulfill your body’s daily requirement of Omega 3s or you can break it up in smaller increments and use the chia seeds in other recipes or drinks.
The last extra that you should add to any smoothie is coconut oil. CVS Cold Pressed Coconut Oil is perfect for smoothies to add an extra creaminess to it. But aside from added creaminess, coconut oil coconut oil adds natural energy boosting properties, assists in weight loss, helps to lower cholesterol, provides added hydration and for women helps to regulate their hormones. Recently coconut oil has also been shown to possibly slow the progression of Alzheimer’s and possibly reverse some symptoms. Aside from all these coconut also helps to relieve some of the symptoms of chronic fatigue, boost your immune system and provide the body with antioxidants to fight degenerative diseases. All this by just adding one tablespoon to your smoothie mix!
