A compelling and disturbing photo of a gray and white pit bull lying on the sidewalk in San Bernardino, California found by a good Samaritan and posted on social media Thursday afternoon, continues to draw the attention and concern of animal lovers across the nation. A short video of the dog, now dubbed Mousie, showed the grateful dog reach up to lavish her rescuer with heartfelt thanks by kissing her about the neck and face.
Mousie continues to fight for her life at a veterinary hospital in San Bernardino. Labradors and Friends Dog Rescue have notified the shelter they will be taking responsibility for Mousie, who continues to be treated with intravenous fluids and antibiotics. According to her latest update, released on Thursday evening, Mousie suffers from an infection of the uterus (Pyometra). The dog only weighs 25.8 pounds; a dog of her size and breed should weigh between 50 to 60 pounds. For the next few days, veterinarians will attempt to feed her small meals. “We should know more tomorrow after she is assessed. She has Labradors and Friends Dog Rescue standing strong behind her and of course you, her amazing village, filled with love.”
At this time, Mousie is not a candidate for surgery because she is too weak. More than 50,000 viewers have watched the dog’s video. If you would like to donate to her care, you may send through PayPal at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please indicate your donation is for Mousie.
