My mom who is a master knitter taught me how to knit as a little girl and I am still knitting today. It has been a tradition in my family and I feel that this tradition is important enough to to write about to get the word out, not only about knitting but about the tradition it holds.
Over the years my mom, my sister and the extended family of women in my life have shared in the joy of this wonderful hobby of knitting and because they shared it with me I have been able to pass on my passion for knitting to others. This tradition brings families and friends together as they share a common interest.
I taught both of my daughters to knit at a young age and just recently I taught my 6 year old granddaughter. This craft has been passed down for generations and a tradition in my family.
But not only has this gift of knitting benefited my family, I have been able to pass my tradition to others and give them a tradition to pass along to their friends and family. Over the years I have taught my friends and family and about four years ago I began a knitting club and invited more people to learn a new tradition of knitting.
I have taught many people, men as well that have showed an interest in learning the art and tradition of knitting. It gives me so much pleasure to see others enjoying the craft of knitting and especially when I know that I have had something to do with it.
If you don’t know someone that knits you can learn through on line videos and books at your local Michael’s or Walmart for supplies. You can start your own tradition of learning and teaching others how to knit. If you ever said “I can’t do that without trying perhaps you should give it a try. And if you ever wanted to try, why not start today. You will make mistakes along the way, but the more you knit the better you will get at it and hopefully enjoy it.
It is never too late to learn something new or begin a new tradition in your family. And if you know someone, ask them to teach you how to knit and enjoy the passion and tradition that so many now do.
I have put together a slide show of knitting that I myself have worked on and projects that others have made. Every project is unique in its own way.
