Country singer and global superstar, Shania Twain celebrates her 50th birthday today, after capturing the attention of the world in 1993 to becoming one of the biggest selling female artists in the world today. Born in Ontario, Canada, her birth name was Eileen Regina Edwards, where she grew up in a very poor household, to hardworking parents, who divorced when she was only two. When her mother remarried, she witnessed domestic violence between the two of them, which was incredibly hard for her to experience and led her into feeling helpless and into a deep depression. Then, tragedy struck Shania and her siblings, when both her mother and stepfather tragically died in a car accident in 1987. Shania immediately took on the guardian role of caring for her brothers and sisters at the young age of 14. During this time, Shania took her younger siblings and moved to Huntsville, Ontario where she would perform gigs at local venues to support the family and keep a meal on the table. In the early 90’s, Shania’s Huntsville. manager, organized a demo for her to be made and showcased to label executives from Mercury, Nashville who signed her within a few months.
She then had the chance to meet producer and writer Robert “Mutt” Lange, in Nashville. After this successful introduction in 1993, Shania and Mutt begun an incredible songwriting partnership and created songs that would later turn into hit singles. Within only a couple of weeks of meeting, they became very close and married within a few months, in December 1993. The rest as they say as history. Shania released her successful album, “The Woman in me”, produced by Mutt Lange, and the songs were either written or co-written by both of them. Her music stunned many people, combined with her flawless voice and gorgeous looks. She then released her hit single “Who’s Bed Have Your Boots been Under?” in 1995 which went to number 11 on the Country Billboard Charts, then there was the release of her number one single “Any Man of Mine”, which was a smash hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Shania’s other hit song “If You’re not in it for Love” (I’m Outta Here), was remixed and released in Australia in 1996, which went to number one and also became a huge hit for her. Shania would later give birth to her and Mutt Lange’s only child together a son, Eja, in 2001. Shania continued touring and writing more material and releasing successful albums with her husband and continued winning every type of award others could only dream of including several County Music and Grammy awards. She proved just how much of an impact she made on the world, that even her hometown town of Timmins, Ontario built the “Shania Twain Centre” in honor of her success and contribution to the music world. Sadly, for Shania, she and Mutt Lange later divorced and have both since remarried. Throughout her successful career, Shania has released a huge catalog of songs such as “Man I feel like a Woman”, “That Don’t Impress me much”, “You’re still the one” and one of the most popular wedding songs in history “From this moment on”. Shania is also dedicated to helping many charities across the world and for this combined with her incredible talent, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood “Walk of Fame” in 2011.
Shania then took on a Las Vegas Residency in December 2012 to December 2014, at Caesars Palace which made an incredible $43.6 million at the box office. Throughout her career, Shania has sold over 85 million records and proved to the world just how incredible and inspirational she really is. What makes Shania so incredible is her ability to turn heartache, tragedy and hard work and put it into her music which will live on in our hearts forever. Shania has announced she will retire, after her current tour and a career of 25 years in music. The world is forever grateful to you Shania Twain, for sharing your incredible gift with us.
