There’s summer, and now there’s “Secret Summer.” In the tradition of the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island, this new event combines local food, music and cocktail vendors in a summer chic-themed, day-long extravaganza on August 2nd. From 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The brick-walled event space Foundry in Long Island City, Queens, will play host to multiple vendors, bartenders and musicians as guests wander in and out throughout the day enjoying this hidden escape from the August doldrums. Ticketed guests will find a “mysterious man with a peculiar hat” waiting to guide them into a Midsummer Night Dream of flowing champagne and cocktails, food samples from some of the city’s most innovative food trucks and restaurants and “many more surprises.”
Bartender Andrew Maturana will be pouring refreshing libations, including a Shiso Leaf Julep and a Redwood Sorrel French 75. Food options include Korilla BBQ, Morris Food Truck and a “Grass Fed Grill” fired up by chef John Mooney. Sweet treats provided by the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream truck. To keep things from getting too serious, a life-sized beer pong drinking game will continue throughout the day. Other entertainment include a mini-production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” from Shrunken Shakespeare, ragtime music by the Ida Blue Band, the “Absolutely Ridiculous” photo booth, and a VIP oysters and Champagne room. Cocktail sponsors include Cachaca 51, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, Herradura Tequila, Rekorderlig Cider, Fentimen’s Ginger Beer and Polar Seltzer Water.
A variety of ticket options, ranging from $150 to $300 per person allow guests to attend specific day or night shifts, or VIP options which allow access in and out throughout the entire event. Free Lyft codes to the party are included in the ticket price. A Midsummer Night’s Dream / summer-chic dress code is encouraged.
Secret Summer takes place August 2 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Foundry, 42-38 Ninth Street, LIC. Visit secretsummernyc.com for tickets and more information. You must be 21 or older to attend, I.D. required.
