Scour from Existence – 7
Exile target permanent.
“Our people and our very lands disappear as if they never were. We no longer fight for glory, or honor. We battle now for the right to exist.”
-General Tazri, allied commander
Seven mana may seem like a lot, however as Standard slows down it’s certainly attainable. It’s certainly harder to cast Scour from Existence in limited unless your deck is built to ramp up into large threats like other Eldrazi or the game runs long. While Scour from Existence may often target creatures, it’s wrong to compare it to spells like Swords to Plowshare, Path to Exile, Condemn, or Dispatch. Scour from Existence lets any color remove any threat. That’s huge for Blue and Green creatures who can generally only bounce a creature or fight a rival’s creature. Scour from Existence lets those colors directly deal with threats.
It’s important to note that Scour from Existence can target more than just creatures. It can hit any permanent. That means you’ll be able to deal with pesky planeswalkers such as Gideon, Battle-Forged or Liliana, Heretical Healer. While black and red mages have been able to do this for a while with cards like Hero’s Downfall and Dreadbore, now other colors have this opportunity too. Black also finally can deal with enchantments, a permanent type that black typically has problems with.
