The Science Center of Iowa (401 West Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in Des Moines) will host their October Mixology Night on Friday, October 2. The monthly event will feature live music, interactive science activities and programs, and an open bar. October’s Mixology will feature a “Pyro Party” full of flaming science experiments using propane, methane, and hydrogen, and there will be live music from Plastic Apartment. West Okoboji, Iowa’s West O Beer will provide the event’s featured beer, the West O Smoked Red Ale, and the Science Center’s Apple Inferno will be the featured cocktail. Mixology Night will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and it is restricted to those 21 or older. Admission for the event is just $5, and it is free if you are an SCI member.
Plastic Apartment is a Des Moines-based pop, rock and roll, and country cover band founded in 2007 that features Adam Drake on vocals and acoustic guitar, John Volz on lead guitar, Chris Brubaker on bass and backing vocals, and Cory Sharp on drums. The band spent time as the house band at Cy’s Roost in Ames early on before exploring the West Coast. The band eventually returned to Iowa and has been featured at events like Ames on the Half Shell and the Relay for Life, as well as playing regular shows at venues all over Central Iowa.
