There are lots of good sci-fi flicks headed to theaters this Fall (Sept. and Oct.). Here are some you don’t want to miss.
“The Visit” is M. Night Shyamalan’s return to the heart-pounding thrillers that made him famous. The story follows two children that visit their grandparents for the very first time. The kids find out really quick that everything is not okay once the sun goes down. “The Visit” hits theater screens on September 11.
“Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” returns moviegoers to the post-apocalyptic world of a group of teenagers that escaped a nightmarish maze. In this second movie, the teens have escaped and expect to return to a normal world, but they are in for an even bigger surprise. Based on a series of young-adult novels, “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” starts September 18.
“Hotel Transylvania 2” is set for release September 25. Now that the hotel is open to humans, as well as monsters, Dracula (Adam Sandler) is beginning to wonder if his grandson is more human than monster. So Drac and his pals set out to test the boy to find his inner beast. The pressure amps up when Dracula’s father (Mel Brooks) shows up.
“The Martian” is based on Andy Weir’s out of this world book about an astronaut stranded on Mars. Matt Damon plays the astronaut that was presumed dead and left behind after an expedition to Mars. Alone on a desolate planet, he must figure out how to survive. “The Martian” could be another big blockbuster for director Ridley Scott when it hits theaters October 2.
With a great cast, “Pan” is sure to be a winner when released October 9. This is the story of Peter Pan (Levi Miller) as a 12-year old boy just discovering Neverland. In this version Hook (Hugh Jackman) is not the villain he later becomes in J.M. Barrie’s books.
“Crimson Peak” will thrill horror fans beginning October 16, just in time for Halloween. Guillermo del Toro’s sexy, gothic haunted romance movie is filled with secrets, mystery and supernatural thrills.
Also hitting theaters on October 16, “Goosebumps” is a movie based on R. L. Stine’s popular books and tv series. Jack Black stars as Stine as the creatures from his books are set free in a small town. Gathering them back up and getting rid of them becomes a monstrous task.
“The Last Witch Hunter” sets Vin Diesel as an immortal warrior that centuries ago slayed an all-powerful Queen Witch. Now she is being resurrected and it is up to Kaulder (Diesel) to save the human race. With stars like Diesel, Elijah Wood and Michael Kane, this looks to be one worth checking out.
“Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse” stumbles into theaters on October 30. This horror/comedy movie centers around – you got it, scouts and zombies. When their hometown is invaded by zombies, three scouts and a cocktail waitress fight for the badge of a lifetime. This looks like a fun Halloween flick.
