Video of Emerson’s rescuer getting him out of his kennel!
A horribly abused senior dog is scheduled to die tomorrow in a California shelter. Emerson is covered with scars from what look like bite wounds. He has growths all over his body, including what seem to be painful growths on his genitals. His ears were butchered, but in spite of the scars and open wounds, there is a dignity and grace to Emerson’s look.
His eyes seem to reflect on the horrors he has endured in his seven years on earth, but his expression also seems to go past the horror, to the possibilities. His future could be a bright one. He could be rescued with a foster offer. There are differing stories about his temperament. Those who have met him have fallen in love with him. They said things like “His energy is pure love,” and one person posted on his Facebook thread, “EMERSON is one of the sweetest and most gentle senior boys. He is quiet and takes treats so gently. He wags his tail non-stop. I was shocked to hear he failed (his temperament test). He is likely in pain. Surprised he was tested with his obvious medical problems.”
Many do not feel that a temperament test given to a dog who is obviously in pain is a fair test of personality. And others simply do not agree with the results of temperament tests given by the shelter. A comment posted was “they should take it with a grain of salt. We recently rescued a waiver dog from Carson – a mastiff- that they deemed highly aggressive, unapproachable, etc. etc. and he is the sweetest dog!” Many who met Emerson said he has a wonderful personality.
Emerson does not appear to be dog friendly. If he was in a situation where he was attacked by other dogs, that is understandable. And even bait dogs and fighting dogs have eventually — with love and time — come to enjoy the company of other dogs, (The Michael Vick dogs being the most notable example.) Emerson’s video can be seen here.
Emerson urgently needs a foster home. He needs a place where he can be safe and get his medical needs seen to. He may not have long to live, but the time he has left should be loving time. Perhaps the only loving he will ever have gotten in his life. And maybe, just maybe, the tumors are benign and he will live a long and happy life. But only if there is a foster offer TONIGHT. Emerson dies tomorrow.
Please share his story. Please ask family and friends to share with their contacts. Emerson’s time is very limited! He must be saved tonight.
His ID# is A4897986. Emerson is at the Carson Animal Care Center, 216 Victoria Street, Gardena, California. He is in kennel C343. The shelter phone number is (310) 523-9566.
