A video posted on the Internet this week sparked a debate over whether the alleged Sasquatch sighting in North Carolina on Thursday is the real deal or some marketing ploy. If nothing else, the dog did one helluva job spooking the ape-like creature.
According to an August 10 Newsmax report, vacationer, Eric Walters, claims he was taking a morning stroll with his dog, a Yorkshire terrier. Suddenly, he and the canine observed a figure a short distance away ambling along in the brush. Then chaos ensued as the dog went in pursuit of the hairy being that walked upright.
“Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!”
As the figure retreats into the thicket, the heroic dog returns to Walters unscathed. And before long, Walters uploaded the grainy footage (why is the darn footage always “grainy?”) of the Sasquatch sighting to social media sights.
And what followed was nothing short of frenzy. Many readers, including several national news stations, queried Eric for his take, and shared their thoughts. Arguably, the most intriguing part of the video in the North Carolina mountains was the bravery displayed by the dog.
Walters spoke about the chance sighting of Sasquatch. On whether he believes the sighting was the legendary creature, Eric credits his Yorkie for saving the day.
“Zippy could tell I was scared and got so riled up that he got loose and went after it. It turns out the brave little guy chased the Sasquatch away and saved me from a possible encounter. I love him more than ever.”
Sasquatch sightings are not new to the state. According to the North Carolina Bigfoot website, one report in 2015 involved a pit bull dog that was scared out of its wits.
“A witness reports observing an unknown creature from a distance of about 150 feet walking on a steep hillside near his apartment complex. He described the creature as tall with medium brown shaggy hair and moving on two legs. The witness says that the hill would be too steep for a human to traverse with such ease, and that the creature’s presence frightened his 75-pound Pit bull to an extent he had never seen before. While he admits that the nighttime sighting prevented clear identification and that he could not be sure as to what he saw, he was “pretty sure” it was not a human or a bear.”
While no remains, fossils or genetic material has been linked to the fabled creature, also known as Bigfoot, the craze continues.
