Sandra Annette Bullock is an American actress and film producer who was born July 26, 1964 in Arlington, Virginia. She is one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses and is the recipient of one Academy Award from two nominations, and one Golden Globe Award from five nominations. She was named the “Most Beautiful Woman” by People magazine in 2015. Bullock has been called “America’s sweetheart” in the media because of her “friendly and direct and so unpretentious” nature.
Sandra Bullock has starred in countless films including “Speed,” “Miss Congeniality,” “Gravity” and “The Blind Side,” for which she scored a best actress Oscar. Bullock’s greatest commercial success came with the science fiction film “Gravity” for which she received her second Oscar nomination. For her starring role in “Gravity” opposite George Clooney, which scored her a 2014 best actress Oscar nomination, Bullock earned $20 million up front and more than $70 million overall for the film.
Bullock made history as the only actress to win both awards in the same year. She scored the best actress Oscar for her leading role in “The Blind Side” and the worst actress Razzie for “All About Steve” in 2010.
On March 24, 2005, Bullock received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame located at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood. Bullock was selected by People magazine as its 2010 Woman of the Year and ranked #12 on People’s Most Beautiful 2011 list. In 2013, The Hollywood Reporter named Bullock among the most powerful women in entertainment. In November 2013, Bullock was named Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainer of the Year and has appeared on three Entertainment Weekly covers. In 2014, Bullock ranked No. 2 on Forbes’ list of most powerful actresses.
In November 2006. Bullock founded an Austin, Texas restaurant, Bess Bistro, located on West 6th Street. She later opened another business, Walton’s Fancy and Staple, which is a bakery, upscale restaurant and floral shop that also offers services including event planning.
In addition to acting, Bullock is the founder of the production company Fortis Films. She was married to Jesse G. James from 2005 to 2010. Bullock was stalked by a woman, Marcia Diana Valentine and also by Thomas James Weldon who stalked her across several states.
Even though fans have seen Bullock in many films, most people have never noticed a scar next to her left eye. Bullock received the small, vertical scar next to her left eye as an adolescent when she fell into a lake and injured her head on a rock, causing the skin next to her left eye to scar.
The actress speaks German fluently. She grew up with a German, opera-singing mother, Helga Bullock. She spent 12 years of her childhood living in Germany and speaking the language. Up until the age of 18, the actress held dual citizenship and reapplied for a German passport in 2009.
In 2010, after news surfaced that her ex-husband Jesse James had been unfaithful to her, Bullock proceeded in adopting her son, Louis Bardot Bullock, from New Orleans, Louisiana as a single parent. Bullock has been a public supporter of the American Red Cross, having donated $1 million to the organization at least four times. It is no wonder she is known as “America’s sweetheart.”
