Last month, thousands of families chose San Francisco as their spring break destination, mine included. The city boasts an incredible number of kid-friendly tourist hot spots and many options for family minded accommodations — my family and I chose the Omni San Francisco. The Omni San Francisco’s “Sensational Kids” program and adjoining rooms are a fantastic solution to traveling well with children.
Even children can appreciate luxury. Both boys oohed and ahhed while entering the lobby of the historic Omni. The second-floor mezzanine is open to the main-floor lobby, creating an impressive space. Framing the balcony and grand staircase is a gorgeous iron railing in a filigree pattern. The building opened in 1926 as the Financial Center Building designed by architect Frederick H. Meyer. In 2002 a historically sound restoration was completed by the Omni capturing the stunning building’s original beauty. Be sure to spend some time admiring the hotel’s luxurious details during your stay.
After a quick check-in and briefing from the front desk on the week’s activities, we headed to our room. Liam, our 11-year-old, received a re-useable backpack full of activities like a card game and coloring book. The bag made a great carry all for the trip’s duration and Liam appreciated the recognition. There’s no reason that a four- or five-star hotel can’t be a fun place for kids as well as adults and Omni understands this well.
We chose the adjoining rooms option for our stay. My husband and I had a Signature Room with a king bed and the boys had a Signature Room with two double beds. We made it mandatory that they leave their side of the door unlocked. They were happy to comply and thrilled that they each had their own bed, a bathroom they didn’t have to share with adults and (best of all) their own TV.
The first thing they loudly shared with us from the other side of the door was that the hotel staff had left them a plate of cookies and two glasses of milk. I didn’t realize before the trip that this special treat is a standard part of Omni’s kids’ program. Small surprises make a difference!
BEYOND THE ROOMS
As it was spring break and Easter weekend, the hotel had an Easter egg hunt on the second floor and egg decorating. Activities like this are common and one of the reasons Omni is a fantastic hotel choice for families.
The on-site restaurant, Bob’s Steak and Chop House, called to us with the delicious smells that wafted through to the adjoining lobby. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to eat there since our stay was just one night, but it’s on the list for next time.
This spring break 2015 trip was my second stay at an Omni hotel. I loved it and so did my family. I recommend adjoining rooms if you’re bringing kids and I guarantee they’ll love the kids’ program.
