It doesn’t seem right to describe the Samsung Gear Circle product as “ear buds” since their HD sound quality rivals high-end headphones. However, they’re compact like ear buds and go where ever ear buds might go, including to the gym or office, on walking or running jaunts or on long car or plane trips.
Unlike typical ear buds, though, they use convenient wireless Bluetooth connectivity for taking calls and listening to videos or tunes. Available in black, pink, gray, red or blue colors, the Samsung Gear Circle retails for $99.99. The product comes with a USB charger along with extra ear gels.
The Gear Circle’s around-the-neck design is extremely comfortable to wear, and the ear pieces feel good and stay in place well. They also do a bang-up job of blocking out external noises while listening to music through them. Touch controls make it easy to adjust volume. Multipoint technology lets the Gear Circle pair at the same time with other Bluetooth devices to the same gadget.
The Samsung Gear Circle’s battery should last for up to nine hours of usage time and is resistant to splashes and sweat. The product is also compatible with the Samsung Gear Manager app for more granular configuration of features.
The only small downside to the Samsung Gear Circle is its somewhat sparse Bluetooth instructions, so here are some steps to follow for successfully connecting it to a computer or Android mobile device via Bluetooth. The device does connect easily, but not everyone is familiar with how to go about pairing a Bluetooth device with a computer, tablet or phone.
No Bluetooth password is required. External speakers or wired headphones may need to be disconnected before attempting to pair the new Gear Circle with a computer.
To connect the Gear Circle using Bluetooth to a Windows 7 computer, look for the Bluetooth icon in the System Tray (lower right corner). The icon is blue with a white Bluetooth symbol.
Click the Bluetooth icon and select Open Settings. Make sure the boxes are checked next to ‘Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer’ and ‘Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer’ and click OK.
Next, on the Gear Circle itself, push the switch and hold it for a few seconds, then let go.
On the computer, click the Bluetooth icon in the System Tray again, and select Add a Device. Look for the Gear Circle item, select it and click Next, and follow the prompts to set up the device.
To connect the Samsung Gear Circle using Bluetooth on an Android phone or tablet, touch Settings on the mobile device and look for Bluetooth, which might be under Connections. If it’s not turned on, touch the on/off toggle.
Then, touch Bluetooth and select the box to make the phone or tablet visible to other Bluetooth devices.
Next, on the Gear Circle itself, push the switch gently and hold it for a few seconds, then let go. Look at the phone and wait until it shows a Gear Circle device.
Touch Gear Circle icon on the phone or tablet to pair the devices.
Ultimate comfort and clarity
These instructions should need to be followed only one time, since the device will remain connected. Now, it’s time to enjoy phenomenal HD sound for calls, videos, music and much more. The author received a demo product for the purposes of this honest review.
