Sam Smith, who credited a low-carb Paleo-style diet for his 50-pound weight loss, is struggling to stay healthy while touring the United States. Smith, who’s on his “In the Lonely Hour” world tour, said it has been difficult to find healthy food while traveling.
“I have been touring America for the last two months,” Sam wrote on Instagram. “There is a huge problem with getting access to healthy foods. It has been SO tough to stay healthy, and a few times, actually impossible, where I’ve been left with the choice of, ‘Eat this or don’t eat anything for a day.'”
Sam, who lost 14 pounds in 14 days in March, has since dropped even more weight and is now thinner than ever. Smith, 23, was quick to point out that the lack of access to healthy, unprocessed food isn’t just endemic to the United States.
It’s not just America, it’s all over the world, I know. But Lordy Lordy Lordy, it’s a problem.
I know this is very preachy, but all I’ll say is if you can, try to find a way to be healthy. It will make you so much happier.”
Smith has not revealed his current weight, but said he lost 50 pounds during the past few months. Sam has credited British nutritionist Amelia Freer’s book, “Eat Nourish Glow,” for his rapid weight loss, Celebrity Health & Fitness reported.
Smith said the diet principles in “Eat Nourish Glow” helped him shed weight quickly and dramatically improved his health. Smith said he has not been paid to endorse Freer’s book.
“Amelia Freer has helped me lose over a stone [14 pounds] in two weeks and has completely transformed my relationship with food,” Sam wrote on Instagram in March.
Smith, who has struggled with weight his entire life, is happy with his 50-pound weight loss, but is even more thrilled by how great he feels. The former couch potato said his weight loss has motivated him to start exercising regularly.
Amelia Freer champions a gluten-free Paleo-style diet that consists of high-quality proteins such as organic eggs, free-range chicken and plenty of vegetables. Freer avoids dairy, alcohol, processed foods, sugar and grains in her diet.
Amelia said her eating principles most closely resemble the low-carb Paleo diet, an alcohol-free diet that emphasizes healthy fats, high-quality animal proteins, non-starchy vegetables, and excludes gluten, sugar, dairy, legumes and processed foods.
The Paleolithic diet has a huge celebrity following, including Megan Fox and Tim McGraw, who lost 40 pounds with a low-carb Paleo diet and CrossFit workouts.
Amelia said her diet is not a weight loss plan but a food philosophy that emphasizes nourishing your body with real food. Sam Smith agrees. “It’s not even about weight loss,” Smith wrote. “It’s about feeling happy in yourself. Just don’t want people to be sick, and want y’all to feel good.”
