“This is a spiritual assignment.” That’s what Sam Roberts said as he and his group, The Levites Assembly embarked on a night that was not only filled with music, but also infused with spiritual depth.
Sam Roberts & The Levite Assembly celebrated their third anniversary with their “Glory” concert on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Antioch Church of Christ in Alexandria, VA.
Jarmel Evans led a time of worship. Charles Butler introduced his longtime friend and from that point on the room belonged to the dynamic choir made up of talented singers from throughout the DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia).
The group was in great form as their rich harmonies captivated the audience as each song became a powerful worship experience. Each song took the room higher as Roberts offered his testimony and gave exhortations along the way. It was obvious that Roberts is quite comfortable in the musical and spiritual zone and has mastered the art of perfecting his craft without losing his focus on what matters most: the Gospel message.
There were special guest performances from James Ziegler, Shawn Bigby, April Hall, and Serena Young. They all gave great performances, which in reality can most aptly be called ministry at its most relevant.
The night ended as Roberts called Shawn Bigby up to lead “The Flow of Glory.” The song significantly shifted the atmosphere and turned into a cacophony of song as Bigby was joined by April Hall and Serena Young in a mic toss. With Roberts and the Levites strongly backing this eruption of worship, the concert turned into a church service and found some from the audience and many of the Levites, at the altar on their knees or with heads bowed in prayer.
One gospel artists who was excited to be at the concert was Sean Tillery of Sean Tillery & Changed. The singer known for his latest release “The Live Experience” expressed how much he enjoyed Roberts music and credited him for being one of those who is instrumental in keeping choir music alive.
Spotted in the audience tonight was Root Magazine’s Hasan James and there were many others who came out to support this amazing group. The “Glory” concert seems to be just a glimpse of what lies ahead for Sam Roberts & The Levite Assembly as they allow the rest of the world to ride the glory train.
Sam Roberts & The Levite Assembly are currently in the studio recording their self-titled debut project slated to be released in early 2016. Their debut new single, “Reap Now” is available now.
