Aces was killed today. It’s not the fault of the volunteers or the staff. It’s the fault of those who don’t spay and neuter their pets and allow unwanted puppies to be born. It’s the fault of whoever had Aces and didn’t socialize him properly. He was scared of cars and unfamiliar things. It wasn’t Aces fault — he is no longer scared.
Aces is loved by many volunteers. But in spite of his friendly demeanor and his ability to get along with other dogs, he will be killed tomorrow if his kennel is needed. He’s a happy guy — he loves to get out of his kennel and play. But Aces has a doggy cold and needs to be in the isolation ward where there are fewer kennels. That becomes a death sentence for dogs who are there.
All Aces needs is a foster home for the ten days he’s taking his medication. A ten day foster will save his life. He could also be adopted, but the volunteers are hoping that if the adoption doesn’t happen (and it would need to happen right away!), then a foster will step up.
The volunteers wrote in his notes:
Aces is a big boy! He is a friendly, happy dog! He is an owner-surrender due to landlord issues. He is doing great in play groups and is listed as tolerant and gentle, dainty… HA! He does like other dogs. He is a strong dog and does need leash training. He listens well, he was a sweetie with volunteers!! VERY NICE DOG! He is in a packed shelter… Please share him!”
Except for his cold, Aces is in great shape. He is heartworm negative. And while he’s a strong guy, with obedience training Aces would be a perfect pet.
