According to the National Lacrosse League on Monday, the Calgary Roughnecks selected Wesley Berg from the University of Denver and Reilly O’Connor from Georgetown University in the first round of the 2015 National Lacrosse League Draft in Toronto, Ontario. Berg was selected fourth overall and O’Connor was selected seventh overall.
The Roughnecks received an additional first round pick from a trade with the Rochester Knighthawks via the New England Black Wolves. The Knighthawks also had two first round draft picks, while the Georgia Swarm had four first round draft picks, including the first overall draft pick where they selected Lyle Thompson from the University of Albany.
The Roughnecks had seven additional draft picks. They selected Mitch De Snoo and Christian del Bianco in the second round, Tyson Bell and Kellen LeClair in the third round, Jacob Ruest in the fourth round, Jordan Kancsal in the fifth round and Carson Barton in the sixth round.
Berg, O’Connor, Ruest and Barton are forwards. De Snoo, Bell and LeClair are defensemen. Del Bianco and Kancsal are goaltenders.
All nine of the Roughnecks draft picks are Canadian. O’Connor, de Snoo, Bell, LeClair and Ruest are from Ontario, Berg and del Bianco are from British Columbia and Kancsal and Barton are from Alberta. Kancsal meanwhile is a Calgary native who plays for the Calgary Mountaineers.
