Arrival Experience: This small, trendy boutique option set a few blocks back from the waterfront is a charming member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The main lobby doubles as a guest lounge with the small bar facing the entrance door. To one side is a long board table where guests can gather to work or relax. On the other side, tucked into a corner, is the friendly reception desk. It is clear when you enter that this hotel is a bit different than Miami Beach’s other boutique options. Even the elevator that takes guests to their room has the appearance of a library with walls lined with faux books for clever effect.
Dining: As the name of the hotel suggests, this property places a strong focus on its restaurant, which opens to a terrace. Its narrow, eclectic dining room features unique decor that makes tremendous use of the space. Lighting is magical and worthy of a design award while the booth seating and separate tables are great for conversation. The Peruvian chef creates masterful set menus, but everything on the a la carte menu is presented with culinary precision and elegance. Bread is served with colorful, house-marinated olives, and entrees like the organic quinoa with mint or magically rich risotto are delicious for vegetarians. The grilled octopus or Florida Gulf shrimp are popular, fresh choices. Expect impeccable service from the doting staff, but be sure to order one of the mixologist’s craft cocktails from the lobby lounge or a glass of wine from the lengthy list to pair with your food. Breakfast is served in the same bright space.
Rooms: Like the public areas, guest rooms are playful and entertaining with comic-style artwork, bright pastel hues, and plush comfy beds. Bathrooms in many rooms feature glass panels that separate the bedroom and shower with no option for concealment. Yes, this hotel has a bit of a naughty side, but there are other rooms with enclosed bathrooms for shy types. Some rooms open to terraces, and all come with flat-screen cable TVs, minibars, illy coffee machines, and stylish alarm clocks. Colorful chairs, free wireless Internet, long desks with easy-access power outlets, Bluetooth stereos, and laptop-sized safes are in all rooms. White-tiled bathrooms have all-natural toiletries in environmentally friendly pump containers, rainfall shower heads, robes, and slippers.
Amenities: A grassy terrace above the lobby features hammocks and a place for guests to gather and lounge. It has direct access to a plunge pool, but for those that want sand between their toes, they can walk a few blocks to the beach. Turndown service arrives nightly, and the friendly team of staffers here seems to take great pride in their new boutique hotel in happening Miami Beach.
