The Rolling Stones followed up their sold out Zip Code Tour launch on May 24 in San Diego, California, at Petco Park with a secret show. After rocking 42,000 spectators at the tour’s kick off on Sunday, the legendary British rockers performed on May 27 at San Diego’s Belly Up Tavern, which has a capacity of 600 people.
According to a news release posted May 28 at the San Diego Sun Times, the “Satisfaction” hitmakers played a invitation-only show to approximately 400-500, sponsored by former Hewlett-Packard chairman Ralph Whitworth. Whitworth reportedly paid approximately two million dollars for the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers to play to 400-500 friends and associates.
According to a setlist posted May 27 at Setlist.Fm, the “Satisfaction” hitmakers performed a total of 15 songs and included the rarely performed “Crazy Mama.” The song is the closing track from their 1976 studio Black and Blue and has not been played live since July 6, 1998. See below for the complete setlist.
The Belly Up Tavern gig is the second intimate performance The Stones have performed during their 2015 North American trek. Prior to The Zip Code Tour launch, the band played a warm up show on May 20 at in Los Angeles at Fonda Theatre at which they played their Sticky Fingers album in its entirety.
